Being new to the area, I have to ask, do folks here decorate much for Halloween, and do we get a lot of trick or treaters?  In SC Halloween was a big deal, and we decorated the heck out of the place, made it really spooky and dressed up to hand out candy. We always had 200-300 kids trick or treating.  I'd love to do that this year, but I'm worried that the neighbors will think we're nuts.  😜 4951

Nobody on our culdesac decorates beyond a door wreath . As far as trick or treaters go- depends on what "village" you are in. I'm in Sand Creek and we get fewer and fewer kids each year. Last year we had 2- the next door neighbors . I think most peopl around here opt for the fall celebrations at local churches. 4951

In the days and times we live in, I totally understand that, but it's kind of disappointing. I kinda feel sorry for kids these days, everyone has to be so cautious that they've taken all the fun out of being a kid. In SC it wasn't uncommon for families to load their kids up and take them from subdivision to subdivision, and a lot of people went all out decorating for it.  DH and I were never blessed with kids, so we always enjoyed doing it so that we got to see the little ones all dressed up and having a good time.  It was also a good way to get to know your neighbors, they'd stop and talk when they had their kids out.   4951

Totally understand-'we had huge turn outs in Ohio. Everyone would gather in the culdesac to pass out candy-houses were spread out in our subdivision . The Dads would pass out candy ( or adult beverages to those thirsty parents!) and we Moms would take the younger ones trick or treating while the older ones had free range- we had houses that would make create mini haunted houses in their yards . And then we moved here and Nada!!BUT people do Christmas BIG down here- decorating- I've had carolers come by most years. We always walk around the neighboring streets and look at decorations and drive around to see other villages' displays.  4951

You will not be an oddball if you decorate. Lots of people do, just some more than others. We have a very good number of trick or treaters in Hunters Ridge. Based on the comment about Sand Creek, it probably just depends on the demographics of your village. Hunters Ridge is generally less expensive houses and lots of young families. 4951

Great, I'll see what the neighborhood does and plan accordingly. We're in ST with a lot of young kids, so maybe we'll have a good turnout! 4951

I know it's a little off topic, but since you are new... Kingwood is big on Christmas decorations! It's really fun to drive around in each village during that season to see what everyone has done.... Some people go way out! This will be our third Christmas here and I am really looking forward to it! 4951

Halloween is now the second most decorated holiday after Christmas.  We used to sit outside on Halloween with a few of the neighbors, bring out some adult beverages and appetizers and give out the candy to save having to keep going to the front door. We loved it especially the little kids from around the block we knew. Now we usually turn the lights off and stay in the back of our home or on the computer. It got to the point that so many non-locals were coming, many times pickup trucks filled with kids from other places and even adults trying to get candy. It wasn't fun anymore. 4951
