Kingwood/Humble needed a great new Cajun Café.We ate at Café Rian on 1960 last night.It is located on the South side of 1960 in a strip center.  It's the same location where there used to be a now defunct  Italian restaurant. We both had the #1 Crawfish Etouffe.  it was great---large serving and spiced authentically Cajun.Sundays they feature authentic Soul Food after noon.Give it a try, you'll like it if you crave authentic Cajun food   Let's support this new business! 4951

Are you affiliated with this restaurant? This sounds more like an ad than a recommendation.We've discussed this Cafe before on this board.  Some of the food is very good but some is just OK.  Their boudain balls are hot with cayenne but don't have the full flavor profile they should have.  Their fried seafood has a very thick batter/breading and you can't taste the seafood.  Their gumbo and etoufee is pretty good.Don't get me wrong.  I also recommend that people try this restaurant, but they overuse the phrase "authentically Cajun" for people that came from Shrevesport.My father was Cajun (and was an excellent Cajun cook) and my mother was from NE Texas.  I went to college in north LA at LA Tech and graduated in 1978.  Back then, the only Cajuns in north LA were transplants like myself and being Cajun was NOT popular up there.  They acted like they were a different state (with Alexandria the dividing east-west line).  I then lived in LaPlace, LA for about 15 years, which is definitely Cajun territory.  When "Cajun" became popular, north LA started calling themselves Cajun and started fixing "cajun" food from recipes.  More true Cajuns moved to north LA, especially after Katrina.  So north LA now has a mix of sorta Cajun food and authentic Cajun food.I still can't help but laugh when I enter LA on I-20.  The sign welcoming you to LA says "Bienvenue, and Le Bon Temps Roule"  I'm glad that north LA has embraced the Cajun culture but MOST of it is not authentic, but adopted. 4951

@donnatella: That entails going down KWD, I avoid that whenever possible.  Plenty of good restaurants in the West Lake Houston area.

@donnatella: I hate commuting, been doing it all my life, lot of it in the NY area where crazy abounds.  The only time I like to drive now is when I don't have to be anywhere.

@Wooderson:

Is for me. Not like I don't go there but pretty much everything I need is in the middle up and down WLH. If I need to go to 59 I go UpperLake to Timber Forest to 1960. Never any traffic. 4951

I think Zachary's is OK, but I am with @Retired_Engineer.   I think they may be Cajun's from Shreveport.  I never did find bread pudding in Lafayette, Jenerette, Houma, etc, that had peaches in it.  Just a wth kind of moment for me.And like RE said, you have to lol when those from N LA say they are Cajun.  Just unreal.

@Fallon: When we ate at Cafe Rian, I asked the waitress where the owners lived in LA, and she said Shreveport.  I think the folks that own Zachary's lived somewhere in the Baton Rouge area (?).Edited:  confirmed that the owner of Zachary's is from Baton Rouge.

@COguy,  This is just a spam work around.  Based upon some of the comments, this place cuts corners on food as well as advertising. 4951

@Fallon   @Retired_Engineer  @dmartin529My friends, please forgive my ignorance, but would you please explain what exactly a true "Cajun" is....  Is it someone born, bred, and crawfish fed in Louisiana all of their life, or is it a particular region in Louisiana?  P.S.- We lived in Alexandria for about a year or so when I was just a wee youngin', and I still remember attending the St. Pius Catholic School there...  We were the Saint Pius Knights....    4951
