A few years back the city of Houston decided it would be cost effective to change the type of lights in our street lamps. This lighting might be cheaper but the light it produces is far less than the halogen we had. Kingwood is so dark at night even with the lights. Who do we call or how can we get them changed? I would rather hang darkening curtains then to have dark streets.

Now it seems we have had about 100 car break ins on my street. Now some have had locks busted open even. This needs to stop! 4951

@angiekaye:   Start with 311, then the City Council Rep for KW and up the food chain.  Probably not going to be an easy fix.  My street still has the bright lights or them seem bright anyway...

The only complaint I have about the one in front of our house is that it takes away from the glow of my Christmas display. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought about a little sabotage in November. Emoticon  4951

I wonder if it depends on where you live. I'm in SWH and the light on the corner of my lot is bright enough even with the trees that are not far from it. That being said I feel lucky compared to some of my neighbors who's driveways are short and their cars are close to the street. We have a fairly deep lot and our garage is at the back and we have a gate that we keep shut most of the time so the cars are like 60 feet from the street behind a wooden gate. We also have motion detector lights which night time critters sometimes set off. 4951

Kingwood isn't darker than other places. Some people just like to belly-ache about everything. 4951

@Francita:  For starters that wasn't very nice....  Everyone has their opinions and it does not mean they are belly- aching  second, there are plenty of streets in my neighborhood as well as Elm Grove that are much darker than other areas of KW.  You don't think so, meet me at 5:00am tomorrow morning when I take the dog for a walk.

Way too much night light around here already.  I don't think I have ever used my car's high-beams since moving to Houston. 4951

@Francita:  You're on quite a negative roll today, aren't you?If the mayor said that a certain type of lighting would be better and yet the result is street lights that keep neighborhood streets darker than they used to be, and potentially less safe, then, yes, as a matter of fact, any tax paying citizen has the right to speak up.
