Music still has meaning. It might not be your style or taste but some of the words are just as meaningful as ever.Don't get me wrong, there are tons of crap songs out there but there have always been crap songs. 4951

@RogueHippEE: I agree but they were not in the majority and they didn't seem to have the same amount of influence on our culture.

I don't think the percentages have changed much, nor the influence. 4951

I think music may have too much influence on some subsets of our culture now. 4951

@BooBear:  IMO in most cases it's the wrong kind of influence. 4951

I like music that the words mean something to me now as opposed to a reflection on society. Maybe music hasn't changed as much as we have all grown up.

I go thru phases and just listen to alot of different stuff with the exception of country and hip hop rap stuff. Born in the 60s we grew up listening to alot of really good music. IPlus now I also like alot of modern rock with new reggae being my favorite just seems to put me in such a good positive mood. 4951

What's popular sure has changed.  What wins at music awards has changed.  Now rap, full of cursing and kill the cops and rape the women, dominates.  It has meaning.  But the meaning is evil. 4951
