I've lived in Houston since 1980 and I think some section in and around the city has been being worked on continuously since then! The section south of the SH toll road and Clear Lake is an absolute mess! Can't wait until it's done and they can surprise us by tearing up another section. 4951

I think they have been working on it continuously since about 1957.  As soon as they get it expanded, they realize it needs to be expanded further south or they need to add another lane... 4951

hate to tell ya but I've lived here all my 63 years and I45 South had been torn up since I was a little girl and I remember my family driving to Jimmie Walkers In Kemah for special family dinner celebrations, and the Boardwalk, and Playland Park and Gaido's and all kinds of good memories............be careful out there on the highway and watch the speed limits......there's a Trooper out there with my last name that watches those roads very thoroughly.....Have a lovely cupla days........ 4951

As they improve the major highways going in/out of the city, more people will move to the suburbs, causing more traffic, wearing down the roads faster, causing more repair/additions, and it goes in a loop. 4951

Yes I agree, it will continue forever and I'm sure the Williams brothers appreciate that! What gets me is that they let the road get to the point it is almost hazardous to drive and funnel twice as much traffic on it as they narrow the lanes to work  on the other side. I drove the Avalon and I'm thinking I should have taken the Land Rover what with all the ruts and potholes on that narrowed down section! 4951

I have been coming to Houston since I was a little boy. I am now 56 and have lived here for 30 years, I have never known 45 not to be under construction.

When they get finished they realize they are 10 years behind the growth and start all over again. 4951
