Went over this morning to dose out her weekly meds and my wife wanted to show her some pictures of mom's great granddaughter's wedding in California that she could not attend. Booted up the computer and I guess mom upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10!  She is notorious for just clicking yes when she gets any kind of pop up message. 4951

@Chrisinkingwood: I have w10 I found Firefox 64bit this 2008 machine has never ran so good. Sorry some of you have issues with w10 maybe buy some quality memory sticks or if your running 32 bit with a 32 bit processor time for a new system. Fry's is selling a quad coRe laptop for $300

you know what you might do if she has that habit is to make a cloned image of the drive in her computer on an external drive so that if she clicks the wrong thing, you have the capability of wiping the drive and installing the image to put it back to what it was.... 4951

No, I've upgraded my machines... I just would have liked to have done it for her as she did the stock basic upgrade. Now I have to go in and clean it up, set perimeters and default programs and set privacy stuff. Plus at 88 she is a bit on the slow end of the learning curve. 4951

@Chrisinkingwood:  I'll give her a bunch of credit for at least learning some basics of computing.  Both of my parents considered them bad and said "they take peoples jobs".  They refused to even try one, even though I tried to explain PCs to them.  After my mom died, we wanted dad to have a cell phone he could keep on him.  During his last few months, he finally relented but almost never used it.

No, I agree RE, she actually knows how to go to Goggle and search for things. But she gets impatient if the computer is running a bit slow. One day she said nothing would open so I went and had a look and she had like 50+ IE browser windows open and using all the resources. She said she just got impatient and kept clicking on the icon to open it not knowing it was trying to load but wasn't fast enough for her.  She has a solitaire game we got her and she will sit for hours playing or go to her FB page to see what her grandkids have posted.  Not bad for 88 years old 4951

@friday1:  I'll have to check that out.  I'm running W10 64bit, but Firefox continues to hoard data/resources and just bogs down.I'm not impressed with Edge.  I like my toolbars,  and Edge won't import bookmarks/favorites from Firefox.  If I can turn on toolbars, I'll transfer my bookmarks to Chrome, then to Edge.

chris- what i meant is that if she clicks on things, the chances are someday she will click on something that will be bad news. if you have a clone of what she has at the present time, you could wipe the drive and install the cloned image right back onto her drive and be back in business. so with an external hard drive and a cloning program, you would be insured of not having to start all overcloning and backup software freebieshttp://download.cnet.com/Macrium-Reflect-Free/3000-2242_4-10845728.htmlhttp://download.cnet.com/FarStone-DriveClone-Free/3000-2094_4-75761797.htmlhttp://download.cnet.com/Drive2Drive/3000-2248_4-10040644.htmlhttp://download.cnet.com/AOMEI-Backupper-Standard/3000-2242_4-75833997.htmlthen you can shop frys for like a wd mybook on a sale. i saw a 4tb the other day for 119 and a 2 tb for 79and here are a couple articles about  10http://download.cnet.com/blog/download-blog/a-guide-to-windows-10-security-settingshttp://download.cnet.com/blog/download-blog/windows-10-even-more-of-your-questions-answered 4951

@ProblemAgain: Yes, Firefox in my preferred browser, I use LastPass to store and sync my passwords and fill in web forms and XMarks to store and sync bookmarks. Sometimes I'm on my wife's computer when we travel so it makes it easier for me to access my stuff using those.  Not impressed with Edge or IE. Funny but I also don't use the  Microsoft media viewers for pictures, videos or just about anything. I miss the widgets, I used to have 4-5 on the right side of my main monitor, I could look at the calendar, the weather, foreign currency rates, etc  at a glance. Now I have to go to the App page or whatever Windows calls it and open an app.

@friday1:  I only find that Mozilla is working on a 64 bit version of Firefox and has not yet released it.  Are you using a test version?

/ www.mozilla.org/en-U S/firefox/developer/ all/Its working fine for me Ive had up to 10 tabs open and youtube playing in the background. You have to agree to send a report on errors. You don't share content of where you go. I always click the save content tab off.If your uncomfortable opra has a 64 bit version and IE works on w10 you have to set it to 64 bit. I stopped using IE because flashplayer was messing up and it started to get choppy. Firefox does not. have that problem. for me. 4951
