So I'm doing my walk at the mall and encountered a couple of encounters with vapers doing the vape thing as they walk around.  Big clouds of smelly smoky fumes. I saw one guy walk past the mall cop and he just walked away. I also attended a performance at my granddaughter's elementary school last year (HumbleISD) and a guy is in the audience puffing out huge clouds of vapors or whatever you call it. I actually got up and found the assistant principle who told him he would have to stop. We've had no smoking laws in most public places for some time so it makes me wonder why someone would think it's ok to vape. 4951

I travel a lot for business and airports/planes as well as restaurants have started amending their no smoking signs and announcements to indicate that it includes prohibiting electronic smoking or vaping devices as well. 4951

I agree they should keep it outside, people are obnoxious with it sometimes. Even have a lady that likes to do it in company meetings! It should be stuck outside with the other smokers. 4951

It amazes me that people think that is OK to do inside, and that's coming from a former smoker.  4951

I thought it was just water vapor (hence the name vaping). If it is just water vapor, what next, no steaming cups of coffee/tea in public? 4951

@FoFa: I wouldn't know first hand, but one of my smoker friends says it can vary having nicotine and not.  She also said the smell is offending to some both smoker and non smokers.

@FoFa: I have allergies and I steer clear of the vape folks.  I have problems with air fresheners and some candles and perfumes, would rather not add to it.  lol

They contain propylene glycol, which is used in fog machines.  I used e cigs to quit smoking a couple years ago.  I would never have thought to use them in a non smoking public area,  just would not have occurred to me that it was ok.  They are much less harmful than cigarettes, but not as good as nothing at all. 4951

I have a cousin that owns a juice company that has some distribution in the states but its larger overseas. You can buy just ejuice which has flavorings of different things vanilla and stuff but you can also have it contain nicotine. Some use it as a safer alternative to actual tobacco smoke and the carcinogens . It is just vapor that is emitted with a hint of the actual flavorings. There are vape conventions all over the world where they try to see who can blow the biggest cloud its a growing scene. Not for me but to each his own I will stick to my herb. 4951

This issue was addressed in the latest legislative session. Going into effect October 1, 2015:S.B. 97 defines “e-cigarette”
as:

“An electronic cigarette or any other
device that simulates smoking by using a mechanical heating element, battery,
or electronic circuit to deliver nicotine or other substance to the individual
inhaling from the device.” In addition to
defining “e-cigarettes,” S.B 97 adds e-cigarettes to existing statutory
provisions regarding cigarettes and tobacco in the Health and Safety Code, Education
Code, and Penal Code.Texas Penal Code
§48.01, Smoking Tobacco, is also
revised to include e-cigarettes, such that, a person commits a Class C misdemeanor if the person is in
possession of a burning tobacco product, smokes tobacco, or operates an
e-cigarette in a facility of a public primary or secondary school or an
elevator, enclosed theater or movie house, library, museum, hospital, transit
system bus, intrastate bus, plane, or train which is a public place. In
addition, S.B. 97 includes e-cigarettes in the prohibitions on the use
of tobacco products on school property.Just to note though: city ordinances
regulating smoking in public places have not yet been revised to include
e-cigarettes.  4951
