with your KIDS...How do you really have that talk? What starts the convo? What if there is questions asked that you feel uncomfortable answering? How do I know I said the right things or he doesn't have anymore questions.Any tips or advice? 4951

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of books on this very subject.  Read a couple and then do what you think best.  There is no magic answer. 4951

@green516:  Just stick with the basics at that age:  Babies grow inside their mothers, etc.  It's good that he's curious, but that doesn't mean you have to answer all of his questions.  Those that you do answer should be honest, but some questions should be answered with  "we'll talk more when you get a little older".

@green516:

I think the best way to explain is just to answer any questions he has in an age appropriate way. As he gets older, you can go into more detail with each question asked. As mentioned by a previous poster, there are plenty of books and online resources that can help guide you into a answering his questions in a way that is best and comfortable for both of you. 4951

@green516: Back when my oldest son was 3 or 4 his mother was pregnant with our 3rd child. She put on the Nova special called  "Miracle of Life," which had intra utero photography of life from conception to birth. After he saw the part about how the egg gets fertilized by the sperm he gave his mother a disgusted look and asked, "you mean dad did that to you?"  She shook her head and said, "yes, at least 3 times!" I'm all for honesty and using the correct words and terms but you don't have to go into too great  a detail. I had a friend who said his mother always called his genitals his "hawney" when he was little and he was so surprised it was called something else when he got older. 4951

We very honestly answered all question, as age appropriately as possible. We did want to give him the straight facts BEFORE he learned them from his dumb little buddies at school. Getting the kids books like "where did I come from" helped a lot.

Just be honest. If you act silly, uncomfortable or nervous about it, you kid could have weird hang ups about it, too. There are also some things they just don't need to know about until later. 4951
