@KatrinaTrash: Well if that's what you set up as your username, then I guess that is how you will be referred.  Maybe you should have gone for "NotKatrinaTrash"?

It was in response to someone who goes by the name loser or something like that who referred to everyone from New Orleans as Katrina Trash, but maybe I shall take your advice and change it, thanks for the input. 4951

Ok now I see that you set up a username to respond to the other thread about New Orleans saying thank you for Houston shouldering the majority of the Katrina refugees.  The vast majority of folks that came to Houston were of course good people who joined their communities, worked like everyone else, etc.  But not all:  Ask anyone who volunteered at the Astrodome how they were treated by a fair portion of the people that evacuated there... 4951

Welcome to Kingwood...   I think because Houston did have a rise in crime due to some of the evacuees we are bitter....  I have relattive who worked the dome and it was not pretty by any means...  I am glad you are not one of them - I hope you enjoy our city. 4951

@GoldenGirl:  Man, I heard horror stories about that, first hand accounts of the volunteers that were giving up their vacations, etc. and being treated like the bottom of doormats, *****in' about accommodations, *****in' about the food selections, and "assistance" not coming fast enough...on and on and on.

I think everyone forgets that it was a major disaster, things aren't going to be ideal for anyone. 4951

@Francita:  Very true. For mass numbers like that, they had shelter, clothing, a place to sleep, minimal entertainment, 3 meals a day.  It's not going to be Disneyland.  Houston came together with others to provide as much as possible on such short notice.  The city did a wonderful job.  Unfortunately, after a few weeks, we had our own hurricane and it was time to hunker down and take care of our own as well as, as many others as possible. I seriously doubt those complaining were living in the lap of luxury to begin with, so not getting what they were *****in' about, wasn't a stretch..  If they were, they would have cared for themselves and provided their own accommodations and not *****ed because others were not providing it to them. .

@KatrinaTrash: We need references. You can't shoot off and say everyone agrees with that. Texas and Louisiana have a long history with each other. We can agree there is bad everywhere it is worse to believe everyone is bad.

@friday1:

I agree, I have enjoyed the last 10 years in kingwood, I was referring to an individual who made a statement in the topic -New Orleans Says "Thank you!" to Houston, that would be the reference. Thank You 4951
