My oldest used it recently to get home..she was a little inebriated and when she checked her credit card the next day it was $134 to get home here in kingwood from the heights. At least she didn't drive so I guess it was worth it. Lesson learned for her though. 4951

It's available here in KW. We were looking to use it for the Garth Brooks concert. You can get estimated rates before booking. It was cheap getting into downtown but twice as much to get back. 4951

This is one of the reasons I am for Uber and other independent taxi taxi like services. My wife and I once had to get a cab at Bush to get home as our flight was delayed and it was too late to call our kids. It was nearly impossible, the taxi drivers at the airport all refused as it was not as profitable as a trip downtown or to the Galleria. Finally talked one guy into it.It is also frustrating that we pay taxes to Metro but have nothing other then the P&R to downtown. They could easily have a small bus during the day that makes a loop from Northpark to LWP and KW Dr and back to NP. 4951

My husband went to the Astros game last week and took an Uber home. Cost him $37 at 1st. Said the driver was Nigerian and super nice. 4951

She did. They said it was the day and time that made it that high. 4951

@BooBear: That is odd because you agree to the price before hand.. I have never had an issue with Uber.. My nephew uses it damn near every weekend...

I do really like the everything is handled by credit card and no cash is exchanged - safer for the driver and the passenger.... @boobear that sucks but at least she got home safe - cheaper than a DWI.  Expensive lesson I guess. 4951

I drove for them for a couple of weeks but deactivated because of insurance issues. I will probably start up again end of the year when most Texas ins coys plan to offer commercial insurance at a reasonable rate. Its a great system and was improved with the regulations from the City that imposed better screening. The increased charges are due to their "surge" policy which applies a multiplier to the charges when demand is high and supply is low in a particular area. The rider knows the surge is on and agrees to the estimated fare before accepting the ride. The surge can be as high as 5x. 4951

My kids live north of Austin and have used it frequently, which is why I even thought about doing it. The app is so simple to use that I had no problem.  I was traveling during "off" hours so got a good rate....had a Nigerian driver as well. Older gentleman, super polite. 4951
