City councilman Dave Martin's office just released this information on the specifics of the West Lake Houston Parkway bridge construction starting soon. Press Release:West Lake Houston Bridge Repairs Scheduled: Houston, TX - Council Member Dave Martin advises residents that the City of Houston's Public Works and Engineering Department (PWE) will conduct a bridge repair project on the West Lake Houston Parkway Bridge beginning Tuesday, August 25, 2015. The first phase of the project will consist of staging equipment early next week. There will also be nightly lane closures commencing Thursday through Sunday between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. This project is expected to be completed by January 14, 2015, weather permitting. During overnight construction both sidewalks along the bridge will be barricaded and closed for safety and willreopen at the conclusion of overnight construction activities. In addition to the sidewalk closures, the project does require some lane closures. These closures will be similar to those that occur during the Lake Houston YMCA BridgeFest and the Lake Houston 10k/5k race, which require one bridge closure and two way traffic reduced to one lane on the southbound bridge.  The contractor has hired off duty peace officers to mitigate traffic during the evening hours for the duration of the project in addition to flagmen and other standard traffic control measures that will be in place to direct motorists during the day. There may be brief single lane closures during the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to allow for equipment to be moved from one side of the bridge to the other. Council Member Dave Martin's office has also reached out to the Houston Police Department's Kingwood Division to monitor for further traffic control assistance. The project consists of the replacement of existing bearing pads on the West Lake Houston Bridge over the San Jacinto River. The existing bearing pads have been deformed and are slipping away from the supports. Many of the bearing pads need to be replaced in order to ensure that the bridge carries out its full design life expectancy. The contractor for this project is NBG Constructors Inc. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this project, please call 832-395-2090 or email pwecip@houstontx.gov. You may also contact Council Member Martin's office at 832-393-3008 or via email at districte@houstontx.gov. Please note that all project timelines are subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.  4951

woo hoo, it's nice to see progress finally. Yes, it will be bothersome for some, and they will complain, but get over it.  Progress happens!!!

@Stealth83:  Agreed!  Most politicians only want to focus on NEW things that they can brag about for re-election.  Taking care of infrastructure is more important, but most people don't understand its importance.

Nope - the Bridgefest is in February. This Saturday is the Lake Houston Chamber 5K/10K. So the road closure extends beyond the end of the bridge down to the second light on WHLP. 4951
