So I had my annual checkup with my pulmonary Dr. today. I've had asthma since I was 2 which was back when dirt was new and I just prefer to see a guy who knows lungs. His office is in the Smith Tower down on Fanin at Methodist and I always give myself an hour + depending on driving conditions to get there, get parked and get up to the 24th floor. I also like him because I can pronounce his name and English is his native language. Sorry if that doesn't sound right. My appointment was at 9:15 and I arrived at 9:05. I give the guy at the desk my ID and insurance and pay my copay and he tells me I need to fill out a form. The form basically asks for all the insurance info he just copied in the copier and asks several questions that are for information they already have since I've gone to him for 6 years. But I comply and turn it back in and wait.... and wait... and wait for 40 minutes before they call me back. The nurse weighs me and I'm happy to report I'm a bit lighter than a year ago!  YESSSSSSSS! She takes me to one of the little rooms, luckily it has a nice few from the 24th floor of the med center and Hermann Park. We go over some stuff like why I am there...Don't they read what I write? She tells me to wait and someone will take my vitals and do a chest xray and a breathing test. I hate that test because you have to keep blowing in a machine until you think  you will pass out. I then wait 35 minutes..... luckily I have my phone to read news, email and play games on. They come and take me for a chest Xray and WAHOOOOO that Xray plate you have to lean against is ICE COLD!  I go back to the room and wait another 15 minutes. The Dr. knocks and comes in... I think he just got there, I'm not sure if he had surgery or a late golf game. He listens to my lungs and writes my prescriptions. I actually like the guy, he is always nice and asks how I'm doing or where I've been traveling. He says I sound great and he will see me in a year. He says no other test are needed. All in all not bad but I only saw him for like 5 minutes but waited 2 hours. And parking was $7 which I don't really like but what the heck. 4951

@Chrisinkingwood:

I completely understand this. It was practically impossible to find a pediatric neurologist for my daughter when she was little and that is important. The dosing schedules on some seizure meds, weaning and increasing, is so damn complicated, you about need a spreadsheet to get it right. I would drive 3 hours to her doctor, just because I could understand him. 4951

@Chrisinkingwood:  All and all, still better than getting the yearly "probe" and both boobies smashed.

I love my lung guy in Kingwood.  I have seen him for about a year now and I just call him when I am sick and have Bronchitis and he orders a steroid pack without me having to come in.His staff is awesome also-I take Spiriva and Symbicort because I have early stage COPD(no, I didn't smoke) and those suckers are expensive.  His staff gave me samples and coupons and helped me find some great deals.  I am in and out every 6months in under 30minutes. 4951

@donnatella: Agreed but I've got an appointment in 10 days with my Urologist for my yearly "probe". Not looking forward to that one either! Emoticon

@Chrisinkingwood:

My doctor warms up the speculum which then makes things awkward because you feel the need to say thank you and take her out to dinner. 4951

@RogueHippEE: My wife once joked after what seemed like a longer than normal pelvic exam that her Dr. must have been looking for lost change!

@RogueHippEE, who do you use in Kingwood for your lungs?

@Fallon: Dr. Ajelabi
(281) 312-8601 -he is great. My first 2 appointments were longer than 30minutes but they first was a new patient and then 2nd one, the CT scan showed more than just lung issues.
