Now that I have a husband that works in oil and gas these lower oil prices aren't such a good thing for us. Never in my life did I think I would be disappointed by falling gas prices. 4951

I believe we will see gas under $2/gallon by the end of the year. Not good for our friends in the oil and gas business for sure.  4951

Maybe they shouldn't have put all their eggs in one basket and learned another trade. 4951

@DVaz: Do most people have more than one trade?

Were they so delusional to think it would last? Yeah, that big money was enticing, but you can't rely on something such as the oil markets. 4951

@QueenB: Actually it is really helping business for my wife's company. They have a software application used by most of the big oil & gas companies that tracks contract labor during turn around projects where there are lots of contract workers and rented machinery. Because it saves the clients money they are getting a lot more work!  But I know that is not the norm.

We are an oil and gas family. It's been busy for years until just recently when gas prices started to fall. When the hell was a g & o worker supposed to have time to gain another trade?!??! Please enlighten me with your opinion. My husband works 60+ hours a week making sure the pipe that brings in that oil and gas makes it in a timely manner.we know all to we'll that there are ups and downs but thousands of people are daily losing their jobs. 4951

One more thing to add is that in the end those at the top of big oil will pull through. The CEO's and higher ups will still get a paycheck but their will continue to be more layoffs at the lower end. Also the companies who sunk a lot of money into fracking and other expensive means for extracting oil will really be in trouble, we've already seen a few go into bankruptcy.  The Saudi's figured out it's better to sell oil at a low cost than to not have any customers because you hold out for the higher prices. "Drill baby drill" was a nice slogan but in the end it really couldn't have had much to with all the other factors that play into it. 4951

@Chrisinkingwood: Isn't that how it goes with most anything....things change and it helps some folks and hurts some folks. It's good that y'all are on the helping side! Emoticon

@DVaz: Very few things in life can be relied upon. The oil and gas people are on the downside for now but that won't last forever.
