So those dudes at the x of WLH/NP that go up to cars looked in the window of my son's car, saw that he had a tote full of stuff and talked him into giving it to them. This happened in a matter of seconds at the stoplight!!!! Luckily, it was giveaway stuff after all, but it was mine! I asked him why he gave it to them and he said he didn't know because it all happenned so fast. WTH??? They totally took advantage of my teenage son's generosity, and ended up with my Rubbermaid tote!!! My boy feels terrible about it. He knows he shouldn't have done it but those people are ruthless. The guy told me he has to be out there til he meets his "quota" I went and got my tote back. ******s. Should I call HPD? 4951

My teen got taken advantage of similarly last year (chalk it up to a lack of experience with the current human condition lol). He felt terrible for days afterwards, too. Emoticon HPD will do absolutely NOTHING unless the property was taken by force. Don't waste your time.

Did you really go and take your stuff back??

Yes that's pretty aggressive. Tell your son don't beat himself up too bad. Life can be long and it's full of dirtbags.
I glad he thought to be kind on such a hot day. A lot of people's temper are short or they go with a blind eye. Today he got an eye opener. They are quick, best not to interact with the aggressive ones.
I am glad you went and got your tote. I would have too. Then told him he should move along because your gonna let the community know.
Safe travels my friend.

call hpd?? for what?

@mm4731:
Just to report that they are coming up to car windows and walking in the street. I thought they weren't allowed to do that??? If someone wants to give, they'll hold out money. It's not like you can't see them. Are they allowed to be asking for people to give them things that they see in someone's car? Idk the rules, bit it sounds like they aren't following them to me.

@topcat: It was a Rubbermaid tote, dude! I let them have the stuff, but I wanted my tote. That thing was like ten bucks, lol!
I think they are a legit charity so I didn't mind them having the stuff. It was kids books and they say they run a shelter for women and kids.

It was a *Rubbermaid* tote, dude. I may have let a Sterilite tote go, but not a Rubbermaid, lmao!
@beadweaver Yeah, I reminded him not to talk to those street panhandlers again, and assured him that it was ok cause he's young and he has to live and learn.
@mm4731 God Bless 'Merica!

You need to explain to your son to never roll down his window to a stranger. He could have had a gun or knife. He's lucky it was just giveaway stuff. He could have reached in and grabbed him and thrown him to steal the car. On the other hand, your son sounds like a kind generous teen. Good job of raising him. 4951

@sweetie:
Thanks. He really is. Yesterday, he and his girlfriend found a stray dog, picked it up in the car, gave it water and walked it around the neighborhood looking for the owner, til eventually the owner and kids actually drove by and saw them. I am SO proud♡♡♡

You should be proud! Not many guys would walk a dog around looking for the owner with their girlfriend, lol. Tell him to stay safe! We love the good guys !! 4951
