So after 6 years I am leaving my current firm to start a journey in a larger one! I'm in finance. I'm super excited but extremely nervous. I've been doing this for 11 years total and still get scared I'll screw something up! LOL Anyone else get really nervous when starting new job? Rambling post I know.... 4951

I jumped ship after 15 years at the same firm to go in-house with a client in a completely different field.  I have been there and know exactly what you are feeling.  It's scary making the jump...just close your eyes and take the leap of faith...once you land, you will be so glad you did.  If you have any questions, or just need to vent, give me a holler.  I'll be happy to help in any way I can. 4951

@donnatella - Thank you! I have loved working where I'm at for 6 years and was not even actively looking to jump ship. An opportunity came my way out of the blue. One that was too hard to resist! Although my current firm made it very hard by giving me a counter offer. I was literally sick to my stomach trying to make the decision and then all the sudden I had this feeling of calm come over me and I knew I was taking the new role.... Telling my current boss that I was not accepting the counter offer was the hardest. But the right thing. I hope! You are downtown too correct? Might need a lunch meet up! I start next Monday (one block away from current building) and already have butterflies! :-) 4951

I'm no longer downtown.  Moved further out to the Energy Corridor.  If you want to meet somewhere in the middle, that would be great.  Somewhere near IKEA in the Marquee center would be close to halfway. Just holler or PM me. 4951

Good luck @Bearfin! You'll do great!I just went through the same thing in May. I was very fortunate that my former company let me work remote out of Houston (we moved here from out of state for my DH) for the past two years and it was really nice! However, I was offered an opportunity with a very large, international company that came with a higher job title and 40% hike in salary. Granted, it now means I have a 60-m roundtrip commute 3 days a week versus my bedroom to desk commute, but I'm really loving the mix of office/home, I have a great boss (which I have always been fortunate to have in my career!) and I have growth opportunities. Just don't look back! Emoticon 4951

Congrats @Bearfin!!Yep it's normal to be nervous. About a year ago at my previous company, I switched to a different department and it was at a different location... I hated it.. the commute was a nightmare compared to what I was used to (it was off Hwy 288), didn't like my new boss, and I started to dislike a couple of the new changes from the company that bought us out. Well I got accepted for a position in a completely different field- went from Industrial/O&G to education. It was a little bit of lesser pay, but closer to home (cut my commute in half mileage wise + without the horrible traffic) and I got a lot more days off. Yes I could've easily moved up with that company and make allot more money, but money can't replace the extra time I get with my lil man- that's priceless.Again congrats and I'm sure you'll do an excellent job!! 4951

Just put a candy dish of wrapped goodies on your desk. Within hours, you will have met everyone around and will no longer be the newbie without a name. Emoticon 4951

@Bearfin~ Congrats, my friend!  ....What righteous news!  `It's quite understandable, and most common, dude, to be nervous, so just take a deep breath, feel the calm and confidence come over you, and know that this opportunity is a blessing, for all parties involved, and there's a reason that you were offered this position.... That reason is YOU!  You are exceptional.... You are AMAZE-BALLS....                                                                        And that AMAZE-BALLSness has been noticed....So, to help calm those nerves, simply look at it as you're being rewarded for being you...               I'll keep close in my thoughts and prayers for a smooth transition next week, and will embrace you in Calm, Grace and Peace....  ~ Good Vibes & Positive Energy ONLY ~
