Let me just say, HOLY COW! GE MWF filter, $49.00 for ONE!
Might have to use that bypass plate. If I can find it. 4951

Yeah we get generic ones off amazon all the time for way less and notice just as good of quality. Don't pay $60....that's crazy. 4951

I don't miss replacing those at all when I lived at my previous house. I always had a minor coronary ever time I checked out at the register.   4951

I find it didn't matter as the water still tastes nasty post-filtering. 4951

That's not a bad plan either, other than our fridge is built in and accessing the water line would be a pain. We do get 5-6 months on these filters. 4951

Both Wal-Mart and Amazon carry the filter for my refrigerator and it is like $20.00 cheaper than Lowe's or Home Depot.  I have also purchased them on -line from Fast-Filters at a lower price however when they have the deals it usually requires y ou to purchase two of them. 4951

$24.00 on Amazon. So THAT is suppose to make me feel better? We didn't have a filter on our old fridge.Hope I can find that bypass plug.Does it shut the water feed off when you remove the filter, or does it flood the house if you don't turn the water off? 4951

@FoFa:  Actually I found that you can leave the old filter in place for an extended period of time.  Only thing that changes on my refrigerator is the light stays red.  Everything still works them same, no leaks nothing.  Without the filter hole plugged it leaked out from under the refrigerator.

Fast-filters I can get 3 for just a few cents under $20.00 each.Free Shipping. Now let me just say, not a bad deal COMPARED to the normal price, however, let me also state,TWENTY DOLLARS FOR A FRIDGE WATER FILTER!!!!!!Man, I balk at the $15.00 for 3 Brita counter top replacement filters.Man I sure feel the "bend over, grab your ankles and take it" being served. 4951

How long does your fridge water filter normally last before it needs to be replaced? 4951

@buddyboy: I Don't really know, this is the first time since we got the new fridge.
Got this one in mid Feb.The "manual" says 600 gallons or 6 months the filter is good for. Hasn't been quite 6 months (couple weeks short) 600 gallons, maybe, I drink a lot of ice water at home. But 600 gallons? Not sure how the 'puter measures the filter. Havn't really noticed a reduced flow or anything.Water still tastes the same, no odor or discolor or anything.Ice still looks like ice.But last week we did have some brown water for part of a day, and with this new fridge, the ice wasn't brownish (or yellowish) like we would get with the old one when this happened. 4951
