It was $208, which to me is just fine for a 4500 sq foot house with 2 ac's 3 iceboxes and 2 freezers.I expected more with all this heat.....We run em and keep it comfy in here.....I think this is where the new windows, additional blown in insulation and the updated ac's come into play.Overall not to shabby in my opinion. 4951

Ray, we saw a big difference when I swapped out the single pane windows and also after we went from the old builder AC unit that came with the house and went with a 19 SEER 2 stage AC unit. I also added an attic blanket of extra insulation and did reflective material on the under side of the rafters in the attic. 4951

You must have a low KWH rate. Mine was $168 with the A/c at 75 all the time. 4951

I agree ... we have new double pane windows (which I absolutley LOVE), a new American Standard variable speed a/c (which we LOVE) and radiant barrier in the attic with solar powered attic fans!  Our house is almost 30 years old and 2700 sq ft with one zoned a/c for upstairs/downstairs and our bill was $147!  Gotta love that!   4951

Ours was $425.  I have no issues with it eitherEmoticonAll single pane windows.  But we are well insulated.  2 a/c units, 3000 sq ft house.  And I keep it at 65 upstairs and down every night.  I turn the a/c up to 68 up stairs during the day, and 70 downstairs.  I cook at home and run my oven nearly every day.  Have TV's and playstation's or XBox's going daily as well.   I leave the downstairs TV on when I leave the house too so my dog will not be scared and lonely.  2 fridges going.  Ceiling fans going in every room, I never turn them off.  Well once a week I dust them, but otherwise they go.I can't complain.  We all make choices.  I chose not be hot and homicidal in the summer.  So I pay for that choice.  With joy.

@Fallon: Do you have a pool?  We do, and I believe a fair portion of our electricity bill goes to the pump running.  Just checking to see as our last bill ran about $400 but we don't keep our house as cool as you do.

@HollyHobby: We just paid $240, and we're basically the same situation. 2800 sq ft, built in 1979, single pane windows. We keep the temp at 75 - upstairs ceiling fans (5 of them) run 24/7 because our a/c and heating system are two different tonnage systems and the upstairs is a good 5 degrees warmer. The kids don't seem to care - they still bundle up under their blankets!Oh yeah - and we have a pool = running the pump about 6 hrs a day.

@angelpie: We just switched to GexaEnergy from Direct Energy (where we had free Saturdays). I know this upcoming bill will be higher bc I found the a/c running at 72 a few times (I woke up freezing!). I work from home 2-3 days a week and DH sleeps during the day, and we just don't need the a/c that low!

@buffaloglenn, no pool here.  I don't think the bat rastards at the COH know this, and they bill me for having a pool with my water billEmoticon  No our bill is big straight up because of how cool our house stays.  No way I could sleep if it were 70 at night.   I like coming in my house and the air is cold.  All the time.  lol  Our a/c keeps up without any issues, because I never let it get hot to begin with.  I actually talked to the electric company about this years ago, and in the summer they said it is 100% the a/c.  The lights you leave on, the tv's, etc, just do not pull what an a/c does.  And most people will set their a/c's up to 75+ to save money.  I just can't do that.  If there comes a time I have to, we will have to move to Alaska.

@Fallon: Thanks - our bill runs around $200 in the winter, but that is with our pool pump running 12 hours a day, every day, so I estimate $400 with the AC's running quite a bit isn't too bad and somewhat comparable to your cooler house / no pool pump bill.  You are right on with the AC driving the usage.  You can substitute all the energy saving light bulbs, TV's, etc., but they don't have any impact.
