Well it's been about 6 weeks since my wife had a stroke and we have a followup with our family Dr. this morning. She was super lucky! It was Father's Day weekend and she went into the bathroom and was looking in the lower cabinet for a clean hand towel and came back to bed saying her left arm felt numb. We figured it was a pulled back muscle or vertebrae as that was all that was wrong so we went to bed. Next morning her whole left side was numb like when you have Novocaine and it's wearing off. We went straight to KW Hospital and they admitted her after running a few tests in the ER. The MRI confirmed she had a Lacunar stroke or infarc as they call it. It was just sensory, no change in speech or motor skills luckily. It took a day or 2 for the numbness to wear off or for her brain to rewire it's self to connect with nerves on her left side which is what the neurologist said the brain actually does. The human body is pretty darn cool at times.She only spent a day and a half in the hospital and has been improving daily to the point that her only remaining symptom is the feeling that her left foot is wet and cold and a slight headache. She had just had a physical back in May and had good numbers as far as blood work but now they want everything lower so she is on Lipitor, a small BP pill and a full strength aspirin. Hopefully he will let her drive again as I have been the designated driver since it happened. She would also like to travel for work as her strength and stamina gets back to normal.Oh well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
@Chrisinkingwood:
I am so sorry to hear of your wife's stoke. I'm happy to hear she's doing well.
I just read this to my dh and he looked at me and said take heed. I have nerve damage from a few bad accidents and always contribute my traveling numbness and pain as the after effects. I have a slow reactive nerves in the right calf and left arm. Along with some very bad habits.
It's a good reminder for all of us as we age not to dismiss everything.
My doc has been pushing me for a year to get my mri. You may have pushed me to do it.
Being the designated driver can be very hard. If you get jammed up, I work from my home studio and for myself, let me know if you need assistance.
