We have had satellite (both DirecTV and Dish) for ages. You don't miss anything local. 4951

We cut almost 2 years ago- we bought an Apple TV and a Roku- I don't miss local channels at all- I have news apps and catch up when I want. Do miss football but there is a new channel we can pick up this fall. We went from 120/ month with Direct TV to 47.30( Hulu, Netflix and the house's share of Internet - dh's company picks up half 4951

@Jpgurl:

$47.30 is your half or you pay half of $47.30, or $23.65? 4951

We cut it 5 years ago and bought an $11 dollar radio Shack antenna and never looked back.
Don't ever plan on having it again.

We get 50+ channels. Locals 2, 8, 11, 13 and the rest have 2-1,2-2, 2-3 etc.
We miss nothing but still suffer reality tv. But we don't watch 4951

We had antennae tv before we came here. We didn't miss the cable either. I'm under a two year contract with direct tv....so we can opt for antennae but I doubt that happens.....LSU and lots of friends and fans of SEC football. We love watching the games poolside! 4951

Exactly what @beadweaver said. We bought a HD antenna on Amazon for maybe $60. Hubby installed it in the attic and the reception is great. We watch Netflix and Amazon Prime. 4951

We switched off the TV part of our cable from Suddenlink 2 years ago and don't miss it at all. We lowered our monthly costs a good bit, even with increasing the bandwidth for the internet. We have a pretty good collection of BluRay and DVD movies we have collected, the kind that are good enough to watch again from time to time. We also are Amazon Prime members so watch a lot for free and then just pay for the ones we want to own in the cloud. We also pick up movies at the Red Box nearby if there are some new movies, they text me a coupon at least once a week for a free show or a rent 1 get 1 free offer. I think what did it for us is that we liked only a handful of the stations on cable when we had it but we noticed more and more they were showing repeats of old episodes in most of the non prime time slots. I mean how many times can you watch Rachel Ray make the same crap and use the same cliche words? Or Guy whatever visiting all those greasy spoon diners. 4951

We bought a good antenna from best buy that is on the outside of the house and all tvs in house get the local channels.
Kids watch kid's netflix.

Cable tv has nothing but trashy shows. Stuff I dont want my kids watching. 👎

I am very careful about what my kids watch👀 and listen too👂 4951

Theres an app u can get on your phone that shows you which way to point the antenna so you can get better quality on your local channels.

My husband adjusted our antenna with that. And we dont have any issues unless a storm is pretty bad. 4951

So are the outside antennas best? Are they very visable? My goal would be for no cable, but an antenna for local channels. We already have Netflix...and we are looking at Chromecast... 4951
