Wow! Not good at all. I have friends and former co-workers there. Hoping and praying their positions are safe. 4951

That's huge!! Has prices are predicted to go down to $2 gallon. Consumers love it but it puts so many out of work. 4951

I read that about 6,000 jobs would be in oil and gas production (Exploration & Production).  They've already cut Refinery staff pretty thin. 4951

My company is having another round of layoffs in September and again in December if prices don't rise. I hate the uncertainty. 4951

@Francita: Keeping you in our thoughts. It's very difficult to keep morale up and work at your best when you are worried about your place in the company. It's very draining and the entire industry is feeling it. 4951

@Retired_Engineer: I work on the Chemical side and heard this earlier today. Kind of makes a person nervous. 6500 jobs is a lot of people even though it is worldwide. 😞

@Retired_Engineer: Normally lower oil prices means cheaper feed stock in the petrochemical industry so hopefully the chemical side wont be hit as hard.

They have been cutting back quite a bit recently. My wife was supposed to do 3 separate projects with Shell later this year in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur and the Philippines. All were postponed until next year. Luckily the project in the Netherlands is still on for October. I hope to tag along as her international driver! 4951
