Would I get the most at a Honda dealer, or does anyone here have a sweet hookup at a dealership somewhere? 4951

For purchase, my vote goes to Carmax. Selling out right on your own would get you more. Then again you have the hassle of dealing with strangers. 4951

Go to Carmax first, and get their appraisal. Then go to the dealer and see what they say. Then show what Carmax offered and tell them they need to beat it in order to get your business. If they won't, walk out. Emoticon Worked with me when I got rid of the Altima. 4951

Many years ago after trying to sell my car myself, I went to Carmax. For the lack of hassle they gave me a very reasonable price for my car. I would do it again if I were in the market for another car. 4951

@Maisey1: They were awesome when I went. The sales girl that helped me was very friendly, and I was upfront with what I wanted. They didn't have the truck I was looking for, so she let me drive a Corvette, and a Shelby GT500 while we waited for the appraisal to be done.

@Brat: They got you on the other side (with the price of the new car), most likely.

Carmack will be my first stop! It has low miles for an 07 with jus a few minor cosmetic dings and scratches from backing into my own trash can amd stuff like that lol. I should get a good price on it. I dont want to deal with a stranger trying to buy it. I like the idea of carmax first and dealer second. Thanks, dudes and dudettes! 4951

@chilladahun: Nope. Price of the truck was already set in stone.
This was my tactic.1) Haggle the price on the vehicle (whether new or used). Get that price set on paper, you retain a copy of it. (Do your research too!)2) If used, they need to fix anything wrong with it. (Get it on paper, you retain a copy)3) If you have trade, make sure you have Carmax appraisal available.4) For any add-ons like extended warranty, etc... that's on your own dime whether you wanna get it through them or someone else. You might pay less. You never know!If the salesman tries or begins to hop around on these steps, walk away because they are trying to screw you. Ex. You are asking about a vehicle your interested in, yet are "unsure" of the price and they immediately wanna know if you have a trade-in. Emoticon Hope this helps!! 4951

I also had a great experience with Carmax. I wound up getting $1k more for my car than I planned on. Doing a trade in with the dealer was not an option, because I bought a Nissan, and I was selling the mustang. They threw out a joke of an offer, luckily CarMax was just down the road! 4951

Texas Direct Auto promises to beat other quotes if you bring them in.  They did for us ....by over $500 better than Toyota, guy on Northpark, and Carmax. 4951

@bubbleyes72: No they don't. Carmax was only brought up in case the dealer was offering a lower amount of trade than what Carmax offered.
