On Friday night my husband and 13 yo son are going to the Astros game at Minute Maid park. My husband works in downtown Houston and has said they'll just walk to the park from his parking garage.I'm not worried about walking to the park around 6 p.m. but am a little concerned about walking back to their car when the game is over. In downtown Phoenix, there are always hordes of people on the streets after the games but what about this part of Houston? Would you feel comfortable walking several blocks late at night?They'll be going to and from Louisiana Street, down Walker Street to the stadium. 4951

@HollyHobby:

They will be just fine. After a game there are so so many people walking back to their cars. We've been to about 10 astro games this season and noone has even approached us 4951

I am pretty sure the new train route goes right by there too... just an option. I'm off Louisiana and Rusk but have never walked around here at night. 4951

Have them get a rickshaw back.
Your dh could tease your little one about job prospects.
Have you seen those boys calves? 4951

I used to work downtown, and before I moved here I stayed in Hotels down there for months at a time. I never had any issues walking around at night. The worst I ever encountered were fairly aggressive panhandlers. Annoying but not threatening.

Yestersay myself and 2 co-workers were having breakfast below our building and we heard a homeless man coming and he was cussing up a storm.  He stopped and told us the only reason he couldnt get a job was because of his long beard (but he used all vulgar terms to say it) and then he called us racists and moved on.  He was white, I was white, one guy was Asian and the other lady cajun.  It was borderline funny because I could have given him 25 reasons he didnt have a job and none of them would have been because of the beard.  Usually the Police step in and tell them to keep moving but none were around.  They are harmless for the most part. 4951

I used to do it all the time from the exxon garage on the complete other side of downtown. Even used to stop off at a few bars on main along the way.

No biggie...they are ok 4951

@HollyHobby:

I've made that walk several times. Not a big deal. Just stay away from the corner store on Main and Walker.

Downtown Houston at night is like a ghost town, it's kind of creepy.  They will be fine.  When we go downtown for events we always park somewhat far away from the venue for an "easy escape" to the highway afterwards, avoid the bottlenecks and traffic.  We have never had a problem.  Every now and then a guy will ask you for money, just firmly say no.  They leave you alone.  4951
