So my neighbor (Trailwood) thinks her cat was taken by a coyote.  I am not so sure this is the case, it was  pretty old cat so there is a good chance it went off somewhere and died in peace.  We saw a coyote last year, middle of the day, on our front lawn/street; it was just walking around.  Don't know what happened to it as we were leaving the house and I was not about to go follow it.  We have a Vizsla (about 45 lbs) who has full access to our fenced in yard via a doggie door 24/7.  Should I be worried about this?  How real is this threat in Trailwood?  I have never lived somewhere that this was a problem, so I know virtually nothing about them.  Would they hop a fence?  We have a motion sensor light near our fence, would this help deter them?  Would they try to come in the dog door?  And if they did, can they open doors and steal my baby, or is that just dingos? 4951

I think I have heard that they are able to steale your breath while you're in bed and watch you through your Windows...

Unless you have a rabbit sized dog, I wouldn't worry about them at all. They are all over kingwood. And coming into your house is the last thing they want to do. 4951

You are fine. Your dog is big enough that they shouldn't pose any problems. Mostly they stay to themselves. 4951

We saw 3 of them last week playing Atascocita, they were on 6 (hole by 1960/Lee Insurance), they were all pretty big for Coyote's, one was doing his business in the fairway, then slid on his hiney (atleast he/she was sanitary) across the fairway for a minute or so, we didn't even phase them, they stared at us for a moment, then went on about their way. 4951

How big are they, on average?  My husband and I were debating over dinner.  I think he was trying to scare me because he made them sound freaking HUGE!  Like, eat a small child huge. 4951

The ones I saw last week were a pinch smaller than a full grown shepherd if not equal. 4951

They always remind me of a skinny Shepard type dog, very lean & scraggly. I would not worry about a larger dog in its own yard.  I also don't think the doggie door would be a concern. However my mom had possums and racoons coming through hers and eating the pet food at night. At first she just thought her cats were overeating under she surprised an opossum in her kitchen one night.  But I have never heard of a Coyote coming in thru a pet door.   I think they have been a lot bolder during drought years when they come in to the neighborhoods looking for food and water. Cats roaming loose are much more at risk and small dogs like yorkies. 4951

Lol...I wouldn't worry about a little southwest Texas coyote. There's none here over 30-40lbs tops and they are scared of their own shadow. 4951

Can't you just keep your pet door locked at night? I don't think they usually appear during the daytime hours. 4951
