I'm looking to join a gym but don't want to pay an arm and a leg for it.  Just looking for a place that has classes as well as the work out equipment.  Don't want to pay out a huge down payment.  If you belong to a gym, which one is it? How do you like it? How expensive is it?   4951

Don't go to Gold's or Monster Gym unless you are a meat head. Planet Fitness is good for beginners. But they have a weekly pizza day and a bagel day too (lol). 4951

I Love Golds Gym and am definitely not a meathead. Great GX classes and instructors -- they have Les Mills programs ( RPM, BodyPump, Bodyflow, Bodyattack , BodyVive and Bodystep) as well as cycle and Zimbabwe-- all very high quality and the instructors are AMAZING!!!! I pay $24 @ month under no contract or  you can get it down to $10 with a contract. 4951

@Macitagirl:

There are two of them. The smaller one on WLHPky by Upper lake used to be QLS. I actually enjoy Embody by Chelsea Deli & Oriental Gardens. Very laid back. Much of the staff are from the old Kingwood Athletic Club. 4951

Achievement Personal Training is excellent! They have affordable prices and a set rate for the whole family for unlimited fitness classes (which are basically a few people with a trainer who watches form), quality training, and individualized attention. Even if you are just looking for a gym membership, I'd definitely check them out. Free trial week to try out a class and free consultation and workout with a trainer. I have tried several gyms in Kingwood and found that most are extremely crowded or overpriced - this one goes above and beyond.-Megan 4951

@Ducatisti: Any particular reason?  I was a member there for four years and found the equipment good, with plenty of space, and the people in the classes seemed to enjoy it.  I started running more so I cancelled my membership a couple years ago, but almost kept it since it was only $21/month, on a month to month contract.

Lifetime on Will Clayton, hands down. Super clean, tons of equipment, lots of class times to choose from. The facility is incredibly clean, staff is friendly, and they have a great child center if you need one. 4951
