Soooooo after 2 weeks in GER with 2 dogs in a kennel and 2 weeks sick- I discovered FLEAS. So animals have been bathed ( those that can be) and combed and treated I need to address bedding and furniture. Any ideas- I have DE for the pool but all the sites are suggesting food grade.
We never get fleas- but DD said they are bad this year and everyone's animals have them. Ugh!!! 4951

Wash the dogs with DAWN dishwashing detergent. Leave the suds on 5 minutes. rinse. All fleas DEAD, cheaply, and its easy on the animals skin. Found this little tidbit out from a vet that posts on the American Bulldogs forum. Amazingly, it works well. Very well. 4951

@Jpgurl:
Did you check the feed stores in Porter or New Caney?

OMG-When I read the title of the thread I thought you were making some weird dinner tonight!  Hope all turns out well for your dogs.  Been hearing alot about fleas recently.  Hope my boy (Border Collie) steers clear of them. 4951

@Topcat- yesterday was the first day I felt good and discovered the little buggars last night- so haven't had a chance to go looking - thnx for the tip!I suspect the 2 kenneled dogs picked it up at the kennel- and I'm sure Loki got some added fleas because he loves to lay in the yard. Tomorrow the battle begins. Cats were not too happy about being combed or treated. No way I'd attempt a bath on them- I wouldn't survive 4951

@Ray:

I do this with my dog. He's white German shepherd/Tibetan terrier and his skin is very sensitive to everything. He's also and indoor/outdoor dog. I wash him in Dawn and I put a tablespoon of garlic oil in his food twice a week. No fleas. Haven't had them in two years. 4951

@starryskies67: After I discovered this I simply quit the flea baths, dips and other harsh chemicals. This works so well and kill them DEAD.

I bought a big bag of diatomaceous earth on Amazon. We've been battling fleas for 2 months. They lay eggs that hatch weeks later and you get to start all over again. 4951

ONLY USE FOOD GRADE. Pool grade is not safe. Sorry to say we are all in for a battle. Vets believe the fleas have become resistant. Tractor supply has food grade.http://www.khou.com/story/news/local/animals/2015/07/03/tropical-weather-leading-to-a-surge-in-fleas-across-houston/29683029/ 4951

I believe my husband got ours at Ace hardware.  I know nothing about cost. He also did go to the bug place on 1960 where Italiano's is and bought some stuff a year or two ago. It may have been the DE Earth?  4951

I use nex guard and not a flea on any of 3 doggies and one stays in but likes to sun outside. The other 2 are inside. It's the best thing, knock on wood. I have been using it 7 or 8 mths. It's prescription.they take it once a mth. 4951
