I am starting work as a teacher in August and my wife works evenings as a nurse 5 nights a week. We're trying to find a daycare or something that would take the kids afternoons from 12-1pm until 5. So far everyone I've talked to at daycares acts like I'm nuts thinking this is possible. I've never done this before so I had no idea.
Does anyone have any experiences, ideas, resources, etc. that could help?
@mattc: How old are your children? Your best bet is probably an in-home type place. Be careful though. I just read an insane story from NY. The woman is a babysitter for a family and her child did not have school one day so she brought him (4 years old) with her to the couple's apartment. But she didn't want them to know she had her kid with her, so he put one of those backpack leashes on the kid and tethered him to a bush in the complex! Someone saw the kid and called 911. Scary that she was in charge of other peoples kids when she treats her in such a way! That being said, I don't mean to scare you, but you get what you pay for! There was a previous thread about how expensive daycare is and I did a breakdown of the hourly cost and it is actually very very cheap. Just keep that in mind when you are getting quotes, you are paying someone to ensure the welfare of your child, so you should be ready to pay for that peace of mind. Good Luck!
