Yep. I got em. Pretty sure that're going to want to just take the whole thing out since I've now had 3 attacks. I've read that if you have more than one, you're probably going to continue having them until it's taken out. Not excited about having surgery, but I would rather do that than ever experience the pain from a gallstone attack ever again!

Hopefully I can continue nursing Gage through the surgery and recovery. Anyone ever had theirs taken out while still nursing??? 4951

Have the surgery, for sure.  But having had the surgery myself, I cannot imagine trying to juggle recovery and pain meds with nursing an infant.  If at all possible, see if you can put it off for a few months. 4951

@EllaMentry:

I'm going to work on building up a stash so I won't have to nurse immediately. The good thing is that I can't tolerate codine, so pain meds are limited for me anyway. Most of what I can take is fine while breastfeeding. I would like to wait to have the procedure. But I have such anxiety about having another attack. 4951

Read about the gallbladder diet to find a huge list of foods to avoid. Hopefully that will keep you symptom free.

Have you actually passed any stones? 4951

I had mine out but I wasn't breat feeding.  That was 9 years ago this month.  I was out of the hospital the next day and didn't take any pain meds.  I was just restricted to the amount of weight I could lift.  You've had 2 kids so I'm sure you probably have a pretty high tolerance for pain which I do so I just did Tylenol since I was a single parent.

I had attacks for over a year before I had mine out.  I used to shove my side into a corner of a desk or try to stick my elbow in my side to make the pain stop.  I also would vomit every night after going to sleep which was really weird.

The day of my last attack I was at work and couldn't make the pain stop.  My boss made me go to the ER and they wouldn't let me leave because I had so many stones.  I had to make arrangements for my DD because she was at the sitters.  I had my surgery at 9:30 at night and left about 3 the next day.  I did have the staples for a few days but just 3 little incisions in a triangle shape one being in the belly button.  Don't know if they do it different now.

I will be praying for you.  Chasing a 2 year old and breast feeding an infant while having gallbladder attacks has to suck.  Hope you start feeling better. 4951

Kinda like bowling balls, according to my mom.

Essentially yes. Depending on the size of the stone. Mom lost some small ones with no complications but a larger one had her go to the er she was in such pain. 4951

I was diagnosed with gallstones several years ago and opted to not have the surgery. My doctor said that unless I had frequent attacks, which I don't, then keep my gall bladder intact. I haven't had an attack in at least 2 or 3 years. 4951

If your having anxiety about attacks then just get it out. The first couple hours after you will have really bad gas pains. Like the worst heartburn you have experienced. From there it gets much better. I took narcotics for 2-3 days then found that ibuprofen worked better. I didn't have a newborn to carry so I am not sure about all the lifting. If your husband can take a week off or if a family member can come stay for a week to help I think you will be just fine.
Just pump like crazy now.

Mine was removed almost two years ago. It's funny because I just had a slight discomfort. I didn't have any real pain with it. 4951

Don't worry about the pain. If you have arthroscopic surgery and things go well you won't have too much of a problem. I didn't use my codine prescription at all. I had it removed on a Thursday and went to work on Monday. If you have had three attacks I suggest removing it. My mother had to have emergency surgery after an attack and it was horrible. If they actually open you up it's whole other ball game.  4951

How long will you be nursing? Can you just watch your diet until you are finished?

@Stealth83:

Plan on nursing till he's 1. He's 9 weeks. So I don't think they'll want me to wait that long.

I have an appointment tomorrow morning, so we'lol see what the dr says. 4951
