My 2 almost 3 year old has only eaten two pieces of cheese pizza, a piece of bacon, some raspberries , 1 apple slice and 2 popcycles today.

I made her meatballs n gravy with rice for dinner and she wouldn't try it. It was freaking good too. She loves rice and use to like meatballs and meatloaf but lately she only eats pizza or chicken nuggets for protein. I am running out of ideas. 4951

Try hiding veggies or maybe meat under the cheese on the pizza.

Get cookie cutters in fun shapes to make healthy sandwiches.

Try smoothies with hidden veggies sweetened with fruit and use fun straws.

Check out Pinterest for "fun toddler meals" for more ideas. 4951

I NEVER made separate meals for my kids. I always added something I knew tgey would like but my house was not a restaurant. I also NEVER forced them to eat anything. They had to try it but if they didn't like it, that was fine.

When dinner was over, we cleaned the kitchen and didn't eat again till breakfast. They woke up extra hungry for breakfast more than once. She won't starve. I promise.

Of course, now I will fix my granddaughter whatever she wants. 4951

@BooBear, I did the same with my son but she's talking about a 2-year old. I fixed baby meals until he was at a point where he was eating most things we were. 4951

@foxymama:

Tay is doing the same. It's either pizza or nuggets. She will do a pb&j too. Yogurt is also a go to for us as well. It's infuriating when she won't even try something I know she'd like. I worry about her not getting enough. There are days she literally eats hardly anything. I know it's normal, but I can't help whating her to eat!

She's going through a lot right now. New brother, new house (again), plus she's 2! So i'm trying to not add too much for her. But the pizza is about to stop coming into our house. DH starting buying it and now it's all she asks for. So I figure if it isn't here, she'll resort to something else eventually.

I don't have any solid advice...but know everyone parent fights this battle! 4951

Pizza doesn't have to be junk food. It has all the major food groups. CPK and some other brands like Amy's make a healthier version. If you make your own, it's so versatile. Get her to try new things as pizza toppings. I mean, if you have time for that.

She will eventually get tired of it and want other things. Maybe invite kids over that are more adventurous eaters and she will want what they have. Would you like to borrow mine for a day? Emoticon 4951

I was never one to cater to my kids BUT my ds did get the better of me. He had so many health problems and on of them was a growth problem- he was not even on the growth chart he was so small. So when he did this ( and at this age it's a control issue) I consulted his endocrinologist. He said - let him eat whatever he wants. I was taken aback- I wanted to be a good mom. He said at 2-3 it's about the child dealing with control or losing control ( to a parent or to rules- potty training ect) and it's not worth the battle- if the kid decides he's going to have control on this issue he will- by not eating. And that even my son who was already health compromised was not really going to lose much nutritionally by eating what he wants- just offer him other foods along with whatever he just has to have.
So for 6 months that kid ate hot dogs -3 meals a day- and I offered him good side dishes- like carrots, apples- salad ect. He actually ate the good stuff too but when he didn't I didn't say a thing. Then he ate nothing but PB&J, then it was pizza ( home made- I snuck veggies on that).. I limited the sweets- sugar was a problem for him. But in the long run- it didn't really hurt anything and saved a lot of fighting. Parenting is hard and sometimes if we don't choose the battles a bit better we end up making the job harder on ourselves. So good luck- and you're doing great!!! 4951

@donnatella:

I did it with a one year old..they do what we allow..meal time was just not an issue and even at 1 they knew how to walk their cups to the sink. If it's never a question/option then they tend to just deal.

At 2 it IS about control, I just chose not to let my kids be the ones in charge. It's like riding in the car seat, if it's something they have always done, it's just that way. 4951

A lot of kids go thru the only pizza and nuggets faze. DS knows I won't make anything extra for him, it's what I make or nothing else. Though now, I'll ask him what he wants for dinner and if I don't get much of a reply, oh well, I asked. But it's hard when their that young and you want them to eat so they get the nutrition. Have you tried the pediasure?  4951

@BooBear, I did this with my oldest.  Never an issue.  Then I had my youngest.  And we had a lot of medical issues with him when he was born.  I totally let him snooker me.  Until recently, I would cook him separate meals.  Now he gets what I cook, and takes him plate to the sink, and is pretty self sufficient.  I think every kid, and situation is different.  I look back and am glad I did what I did for him.  He is now willing to try most things.  He may not like them, but he does try them.  And I am also glad I didn't fight him on this when he was younger.  It would not have been worth it.I have eaten my share of crow.  Pre kids, I had a list a mile long of what I would and wouldn't ever do. Now that I have kids, I burned the dang listEmoticon

@Fallon: very true- in general I was a strict parent but for this kid at that time- it was a battle that wasn't worth it to me. We were already spending the bulk of our time at Children's Hospital in Cincy- and he was going through procedures and studies out the wazoo. One of which involved getting blood samples every hour for 24 hours- not fun when I and 2 nurses getting him into a papoose to run a line. So when the endo said give him what he wants I did. Lol- now he won't go near a PBJ- but he'll still eat hot dogs ( belch )
Never say never and just do what you have to do
