While I am repulsed at the thought of eating a dog, this is their culture in their country, and has been for 4-5 centuries.We love beef and pork here in the USA, so a petition from Hindus about cows, or a petition from Jews and Muslims about pork would mean nothing to us.  Why should we think this is any different? 4951

It's not about eating dogs. It's about the cruel and inhumane things they do to the animals before eating them.

I think it's kind of silly to petition something in a foreign country.  If it is their culture and practice, what business is it of ours?  We obviously don't approve of that here, so we don't do it.  Why should we force other countries or people to do things the way we do?  That is awfully presumptuous of us.  And if other countries started telling us what to do, eat, how to behave, etc. how would we react?  We (as a country) need to keep our noses out of other people's business.  Just my opinion... 4951

@thetarget9:  I understand your point, but do you eat meat/fish/seafood?  Wear leather?  If so, then you are also part of the issue.There are already laws in this country to prevent unnecessary cruelty to animals.  Such incidents should be reported and the laws need to be enforced.  The only way to totally eliminate issues with slaughterhouses is to eliminate the market for such products and that's not likely to happen.I grew up in a rural area and we butchered chickens, ducks, pigs, and cows for our consumption.  No, I don't like cruelty to animals, but I'm not willing to turn vegan either.

@Retired_Engineer  AND   @allymansfieldMy friends, let me first start off by saying that I respect your stated responses, and in no way, shape, or form, am trying to be "presumptuous" by any means, and I realize wholeheartedly that this "tradition" has been carried out for some time now, but in all honesty, so what, does that make it right....  NO...   Not in my eyes, not in my heart, and not in spirit..... I mean, women are still stoned to death daily, children sold off in arranged marriages before the age of puberty, incest between generations still occur, etc etc, all by which have been carried out for centuries by particular cultures, and I would really hope that you don't condone those acts simply because some consider it approved acts of tradition, religion, or cultures....  And I am more than aware of the inhumane acts of cruelty performed right here in the good ole U.S., and believe me, I lend my voice, and actions to those causes as well...   @Retired_Engineer  , I am fully supportive of HUMANE slaughterhouses for beef, poultry, pork, etc etc, but if you're unaware with this Yulin Festival, Google it, Sir, and you will see the sheer brutality, unimaginable cruelty, and completely inhumane acts that are inflicted onto these innocent, intelligent, creations ....  They're skinned alive, boiled alive, and in some instances, even carved and eaten alive, slowly, piece by piece...  ....My God, as a civilized society, can we at least treat what sustains mankind with some mercy, gratitude, and respect....   Such as the Mother Earth, in which we step, and live, and the animals that exist, just as we do, and maybe, just maybe, we can stop killing off, and causing extinction of life that is of significance... Again, canines, just like whales, dolphins, and primates have been scientifically proven to show, and exhibit levels of significant intelligence, emotions, attachments, and senses.... And I am all for protecting these beautiful gifts..... @allymansfield   You may think it "silly" to get involved, sign petitions, e-mail, call, write, and take action, but I actually choose to do something about what's going on around me, instead of just *****in', moaning, complaining, whining, or wonderin' why this world's going to hell in a hand basket....  I choose to be present, and be involved...  That goes for Veterans Rights, Military Benefits, Women and Children's Rights, Animal Cruelty Rights, Politics, etc etc...                        Oh, and you might just want to remind yourself about the atrocities of The Holocaust, and thank God that the U.S poked it's nose in other countries business....And with that being said, I love you both, and wish you Peace.....

@herron1345:  While I agree with your intent, please remember that this is not happening in the "civilized society" of America.  It is happening in a remote part of China that, in many ways, is 100 years or more behind us as a "civilized society"..... yet it still happens in the USA with other animals. I'm not trying to dissuade your efforts.  Please, continue them with all your heart!  I just wanted to point out that we (Americans) have little impact on other countries and in some cases, are just as bad.  Give 'em hell, girl!

@RogueHippEE  AND  @thetarget9Thank you, my friends, for helpin' to look out for what I consider to be God's blessings...  My spirit just weeps at the thought of such horrors, and I realize that some may deem getting involved as "silly," but for me, signing a simple petition, and urging others to look into the nature of the topic, is the absolute very least that I can do....   Especially considering how I feel about my two boys, Gunny and Willie, and I get that some relate to dogs as "animals," but not me, not in this house, they're my kids, our very much loved family members, so yeah, this is very near and dear to my heart....   “If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.” ― Will Rogers“Heaven goes by favor. If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in.” ― Mark Twain “All his life he tried to be a good person. Many times, however, he failed.For after all, he was only human. He wasn't a dog.” ― Charles M. Schulz “Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.” ― Roger A. Caras “The better I get to know men, the more I find myself loving dogs.” ― Charles de Gaulle

@Retired_EngineerThanks R.E., your response and words mean the world to me!  (I'm actually a lil' emotional from your words...  And full of excitement, like I can take on the whole corrupt ***king world!)  And I know that I'm more so involved simply because of my emotional attachment to my very own two boys, Gunny and Willie...  And in all honesty, when I was discussing this with my husband earlier, his exact expressed sentiment was that of yours....  I kid you not...  I see where him being in the Marines, serving in multiple overseas deployments, and even with his job in the Oil and Gas field, which has allowed for actual "hands on" involvement with other cultures, so where (you) and he comes from a place of actual physical experience / knowledge, I realize that I come from an emotional, as well as a spiritual stance, per say....

@Retired_Engineer:

I agree...the market creates the problem and laws need to be enforced in both livestock treatment and slaughter as well as domesticated animals. I understand that humans are high on the food chain but that doesn't give us the right to torture animals and treat them inhumanely. I was raised on a farm in Upstate New York and the animals were never treated inhumane both in their lives and slaughter.

Bottom line, no animal should be treated inhumanely.

"there aren't petitions to change it because our government sees it as their culture."@Stealth83See, dude, that's where you're wrong....  Simply Google these particular principles, such as "Children and Women's Rights Petitions", or search Change.Org, or any number of reputable petition sites for these most worthy causes, and you will see that there are already established, ongoing movements for you to sign, pass the word along, help educate your friends, family, colleagues, and the world to, and most importantly, to get involved...  And guess what, my friend, if they don't have a petition that meets the certain criteria that you may be looking for, start one....  That's right, YOU, my friend, have the ability to create a petition of your own, and start being involved....
