I may have dreamed this, but I think I remember coin slots in bathroom stalls in department stores when I visited my granny in Abileneas a little girl. We had to put a dime in the slot to get into the stall. There was one free stall at the end, but it was filthy and looked like it never got cleaned. Does anyone else remember this??
@Zokomo:Â I have had to use coins to use toilets in the UK, Continental Europe, Singapore, China, India, Malaysia and maybe other places. Â It is so common that it no longer registers as an anomaly!Ryan Air had announced that it was planning to install pay toilets in their aircraft - perhaps not on the US routes because us Americans are not used to paying for the use of toilets.I am told that ANA makes announcements in Japanese in the airport waiting areas urging passengers to use the facilities in the airport prior to boarding their flights. Object: reduce the all-up weight and therefore the fuel consumption. But talking about coins for use of common objects, how about the quarter we need for using the grocery cart at Aldi, and earlier at Auchan's? Â People want their quarters back, so you do not see those grocery carts all over the parking lots! Â Similarly, people expect clean toilets when they have to pay for them, and they do get them!
