Bufo or Cane toads, are toxic to dogs. We have some that live in my yard and I am trying to i.d. them. Any experts here to help me? I googled pics but am having trouble.

We had those all the time in our yard, when we lived there. Every now and again one of my dumb dogs would lick one and trip out. They never got sick...but they got high for sure. 4951

@taramay:
A few weeks ago Mr Ween put one in his mouth and dropped it. I rinsed his mouth out and he was fine. I'm thinking it looks more like the southern toad. The dogs want to go after them occasionally they stop when I tell them no. I'm just afraid they will try to munch one down while I'm not watching.

I tried my hardest to protect the frogs around our yard. I don't think my dogs ever ate one...but they'd mouth them a bit. They'd come inside foaming a bit and drink a ton of water. Then have an acid trip for a bit. Haha! My dogs are 60+ pounds though. They're survivors too. One was RUN OVER by an SUV and only had a scratch to prove it. The lady that hit him was sure he was dead. Haha! My other genius ate a mound of fire ant killer and didn't react to it at all. So licking a toad was the least of their problems. LOL!

Mr Ween is indestructible. He has been bitten by a snake, attacked by our other dog, and ran into the deck blinding one eye. He will live forever. Mine are both 15 pounds so I need to be extra careful.

@herron1345: Turtles are the bomb. I wish I wore my house on my back so I could be like "dudes, I'm going home" then just pull my head into my shell and crash.

I had a red earred slider for several years. It's name was Pat because I didn't know of it was a boy or girl. When I was in high school I'd take it to school with me. It was a pretty chill dude. A friend of mine had a huge tank with other sliders, so she had it for another few years. Eventually he got too aggressive with the others and had to be released in the neighborhood pond.
