My daughter will be flying home from her grandmother's in CA next month. The ticket she bought her appears to be a "minor traveling as adult". In other words, since she is 13, no airline escort. I'm not really worried about the flight or changing airplanes, but trying to meet up with her at IAH worries me as I can't even find my mother half the time when she comes.

Does anyone know how to go about arranging to meet her at the gate? I've only picked people up at baggage claim. I'm not sure how close I can get to her gate without special arrangements. She will be flying United.

Thanks! 4951

Used to be you went to the ticket counter, explained it to them, they gave ONE adult a special gate pass to met the minor.I used to have to wait outside the gate area (baggage claim) while the wife got to go to the gate area. 4951

A couple of years ago when our daughter was flying unaccompanied, we were able to go to the ticket counter with a copy of her boarding pass & they gave us a pass to go to the gate to meet her.
I do not know if they still do this or not, but it is worth a try. 4951

I do this minimum once a month with my daughter (now 14).  Simply go to the check in counter and tell them you need a gate pass.  As long as she is under 18 they will give you one.  You can then just be sure you are at the gate when she deplanes.  Make sure you leave plenty of time and get the airline's app on your phone for real time info.  Make sure you leave plenty of time, sometimes the agents are contractors and not familiar with the process.  You can only get one pass, so if you bring anyone with you, they will have to wait outside the secure area.   4951

United is very good about still making arrangements in meeting minors at the gate. I am not too sure about domestic flights but in international flights the Houston Airport System will also assist in finding passengers especially minors. www.fly2houston.com/ customers-contacts 4951

Get to the airport early and talk to the ticket counter. Since she is a minor they will likely give you a pass to go through security and meet her. If you have status with the airline even better.

A few months back our 25 year old was traveling through IAH out of the country. Hubby has a membership to the United Lounge, they told us to just say we were going there. They gave us a pass we went through security, had lunch with son, gave him some things he needed and he gave us the things he needed us to keep for him.

Just make sure you emphasize that your afraid she'll get confused or overwhelmed.

No matter which terminal she is coming in, check in at terminal C. They have the special services counter. They are very helpful. All you need is her confirmation # or her flight # and name. They have always given me gate passes for myself and my small children. On occasion, they will allow more than one adult to have a gate pass. You just say you have a minor traveling alone, but she is not a UM. They will walk you through the rest. Good luck to you. 4951

I like terminal C like @Mahm said, they seem to have their "A" team there and are more proficient, but terminal B works just fine as well.  My daughter comes in from a city serviced by regional jets, so it's much easier for me to use B as that is where she arrives. 4951

Just wanted to thank everyone again for the help. I picked her up a few hours ago and while TSA were a bunch of jerks, I knew exactly what to do at the United counter and they could not have been helpful & friendly.

Side note: I might have cried a little when I saw her. I've been a nervous wreck all day with the flight delays & her 20 minute layover in Denver that turned into 10 minutes. 4951
