Grab your water, pets and medicine/alcohol and go to an interior room of your home and bunker down...  lolI heard water is already sold at at the grocery store...   Gotta love the media who loves to get Houston worked up and the folks who fall for it every single time.... Not trying to make light of hurricane season but the media really is like the boy who cried wolf... 4951

This is not going to be a wind event...it's going to be a rain and flooding event, so chances of downed power lines are much less than in a hurricane or tropical storm.  Really, two weeks ago is a good judge of what could or will likely happen. We already have a 32-pack of bottled water and 4 new gallons of drinking water for the Keurig, so we have more than plenty. We are desperate low on Slim Jims and completely out of Pop Tarts, which is sad.  I haven't ridden out a storm of tropical nature without them at any point in my life.  Not sure how to function without them.  I could also use a fresh bottle each of Grey Goose and Grand Marnier. If anyone is making a mad dash to Spec's, could you be a dear love and grab them for me? 4951

Better safe than sorry but really people you should always have a week supply of everything needed regardless weather or any other crisis sneaks up on you. I prefer 6 month supply myself but news of a 2 day tropical rain storm should have no one having to run out last minute for supplies. 4951

WIth two freezers full, 2 iceboxes full, a large pantry full I can certainly go for 6 months here....and with the crack shot that I am, and the unlimited supply of squirrel, I could probably go years. 4951

Oh my goodness yes! I'm so sick of people getting all freaked out about this. It's just rain!!! Sheesh I only got a little nervous about Ike, and even then I was sleeping like a baby until my mom woke me up cuz my bed was upstairs by the window.  4951

Amen @Burnsway.Hurricane season, just like Christmas, happens at the same time yearly.  Just prepare ahead of time.The only time I sort of panicked before Ike was thinking I had to have a tarp.  The news kept showing those dang blue tarps.  I insisted we get one.  So dh and I went to 3 places.  And we finally got one!We pull up in the driveway, and we look at each other and just lol.  Our roof is so freaking high, no way any of us would have been able to put the tarp over the roof had something happened.  So I have new tarp that will most likely never come out of its packageEmoticon

@Fallon:

My mom thought we needed TWO tarps! 4951

Okay, I was one of those people at the store and HEB was crazy busy.  Last year I was too tired to be prepared after moving our household here.  If we were housebound with power and water, we would have no trouble surviving for weeks.  But if we lose power and the water becomes contaminated we weren't prepared.  I figure we probably won't need it this time, but I'll just make it our emergency supply for this season.  We lose power super easy here, so I wanted to make sure we were prepared.  I have to say that when we were watching this storm over the weekend it seemed much further out, did it speed up or something?  4951

We're kid-free this week, so I think we're good on groceries.  I really do need to stop by the liquor store on the way home today, though.  I'm out of vodka.  I made a giant jar of sun tea yesterday, but it's useless to me during a flood unless there's vodka. 4951

@MarT: This last weekend it was basically over the Yucatan Peninsula - only about 700 miles through the GoM.  At 20-30 knots of movement, the distance it covered is quite reasonable.

We could stay housebound for quite some time. The kids would drive me NUTS, though, but we'd get through it. 4951
