My husband is looking at getting a new car.  His has 112,000 miles and the exterior and interior is falling apart.  engine is stil good.Is it better to pay the extra dealer add on fee for tinted windows or is it better to get the tint done at a specialty shop elsewhere?  Looking at Honda CRV'sSome dealers put tint and others don't.   4951

@foxymama: I did not get mine tinted at the dealer because it was substantially more. Mr Tint on Northpark charged me $165.00 for the whole car a right around $90.00 for the two front windows of my truck. He does a superb job, uses quality film and it comes with a lifetime guarantee. 4951

You will probably find a local place that will do it cheaper. I go to the place on North park and they have done a good job for me. 4951

A little inside baseball, Mr. Tint goes to most of the local Humble/ Kingwood new car dealerships... 4951

Another easy negotiating item...weigh whatever you pay with having to lose the car for another day to get it done elsewhere. 4951

@Mccrj: I heard that too, but the dealer sure charges more than using Mr Tint directly

find a local place that has good reviews. FAR cheaper than a dealer. Personally I dont tint windows. Modern cars have ac's that keep the interior cool and I dont like anything that reduces my vision 4951

Be sure is not too dark.  I heard owner of inspection place refusing to inspect a guys vehicle cos he said it would not pass due to too dark of tint.  Man was arguing that the dealership always passed it.  Turns out they passed it cos they were the ones who had done the tinting... 4951

Definitely go to local vs dealership, as the dealership just sends them to the local shop and charges you an extra $50 to $75. Very few dealers do it in house (cpl of the larger ones in Houston do). A good friend of mine does it in Humble (Youngs, been there for 30 yrs, also does a lot of the Humble dealerships), does a great job, but I've heard good things about Mr Tint as well, and he's more local to you. 4951

@tatertot58:
Not sure, all I know is the inspection guy would not do and told him if dealership passed before to have them do it again! Customer was peeved, but not inspection place fault from what I saw. 4951
