I want to learn too, just don't have the time. I get frustrated when I try to go shopping and I can't find what I'm looking for or for dresses and they're all too short, at least to me they are.. I kinda have long legs. Makes me want to learn how to sew my own clothes. 4951

@Irene4:
Wasn't there a store in KW that used to do classes? Are they still around? I can't remember the name of it. Something with "embroidery" in it or something..

Anyone know what I'm talking about?.

don't know why this is always the case.  You would think people who sew would be all kinds of nice.  I mean you never see mean knitters, or cross stitchers.

@Fallon: those fabric shops are crazy small with limited selections and they don't like other people buying the fabrics or patterns before they get a chance to, especially during sales. They are nicer at mom & pop quilt shops than at the chain fabric stores.

I was fortunate enough that my mother was a professional seamstress for years. She used to make most of my clothes since I was a child. She also hand made my wedding gown. I learned a great deal about sewing, but i will never be as good as she was.

For a few years, I helped out my daughter's dance team by making some of the costumes. One year I designed and sewed most of the bollywood outfits. I loved making all of the kids Halloween costumes and even made a few risqu stage costumes for a certain profession 😉 I also do some uniform alterations for a few people at work.

I wish I were able to spend more time and energy to possibly make a living from doing something I enjoy. 4951

Let me know if you find somewhere.I tried to take lessons in VA.  Just the rudest people on earth.  But it is always like this with people who sew. If you go into JoAnn's Fabrics the ladies there are just mean.  Same with the fabric shop at Hobby Lobby.  I don't know why this is always the case.  You would think people who sew would be all kinds of nice.  I mean you never see mean knitters, or cross stitchers.

@TexasOma: I do counted cross stitch as well. I haven't run across anyone else that does it in a long time. We are a dying breed.

@dmartin529:

I put my needles down awhile back when I got addicted to the internet, but have been 'hankering' getting back into my cross stitching. Been wanting to do some quilting too. Making burp cloths right now for my almost here grand-nephew. Felt good to sit at the swing machine.

I'm in 'internet rehab', slowly going off the grid! :-)

I wish I had time and I would hold a small sewing season and teach some of you the basics. Once you learn how to cut a pattern, sew it together and have one completed garment, you are on your way. YouTube probably had videos to help one you know the basics.  4951

@Irene4Have you checked at the college in their continuing education classes?  Either Kingwood College or the San Jacinto College North Campus.   4951

I'm hoping my mom will pick up sewing now that she's retired.  There are plenty of things I need her to make! 4951
