So, I was in the woods on Friday and got 2 bites pretty close to each other on my ankle. My ankle swelled up and turned red.  I have been taking Benadryl and the redness has stopped but my ankle and foot are still swollen. I have never had swelling last more than a day really.  It looks like I sprained my ankle but I didn't. Anyone have this happen before? 4951

Are the two birds about a snakes fangs distance?

Only thing that ever made me swell, was a yellow jacket sting.

@FoFa: They are about an inch or two apart from each other and have turned more of a maroon color with white in the middle.  The bites are more on the inside of my ankle but the swelling goes under my foot and is also going over the top of my ankle.

Sounds like a snake bit. See a doctor right away. Don't think it was a copperhead because by now you'd be well aware of it. 4951

@dmartin529: Nope-I twisted the one the always breaks Emoticon  It is fine though.  I guess I shouldn't wear flip flops when out in the boonies.

Keep an eye on it. If it turns black or brown in the middle or the redness and swelling dont go down by tomorrow, see your doc. Could be a spider bite and those are notorious for staph infections. Try a Epson salts bath for it as well. 4951

I have heard that when you get bit by something, bug, mosquito, etc. that if you take a metal spoon and heat it up  (to about as much as you can stand) and press it over the area, it is supposed to neutralize the crap that little bugger shot into you and help with itching/swelling/burning/etc. by bringing it to the surface.  I think you are supposed to do it pretty much right away though, so I don't know if later it would still help.  Also don't know if it is true or not in general.  But I saw it on Pintrist, so it must be true!  I second the Epson Salt bath though if nothing else. 4951

@RogueHippEE: They do, but I have seen body parts stung (the first time or two) swell up, but usually about the 4th time that stops, unless you happen to be one of those folks allergic to them.
And fireant stings usually get a whitehead on them after awhile, if you don't scratch then head off. 4951

@RogueHippEE:
I got one on my ankle on Friday. That sucker still hurts this morning. I was rubbing the spot and dh says that still bothering you? Yeah it hurt. It did have a white spot in the center.

Being there are two and the wolf spiders and tarantulas have been running I'd get it checked.
I've seen some really nasty ugly spider bites and snake bites. I'd see a doctor. Especially if it starts to go black or runs a line.
get a permanent marker and draw a circle around the thing so you can see if it grows more.

A couple years ago I was asked if I wanted to hit up brazos bend. I jumped into my suit, bibs and flip flops. A mile and a half on the trail my flippy broke. I fixed it with a reed and went about my way. However don't do this....... unless you have an annoying person with you. I called her gator bait. Notice my stance. I was really annoyed. She bum rushed every deer, rabbit, and birds I tried to get pics of. When we got home and I put them on the computer I had animal azzes. I was so mad as I go hunting now with a camera lens.
