I've officially been in TX a year, here are some observations.Kingwood is much prettier than I expected it to be.  Although, Houston in general I don't find all that attractive.Seems like there's a big Louisiana (NOLA?) influence on this area. It really is as hot/humid as I thought it would be.Winter was much colder than I thought it would be, but that might be poor insulation affecting my opinion.It can really rain here, I'm continually impressed.Texans really do love their guns and BBQ as the stereotype goes.  I'm not a gun person, but I don't care if others have them.  Do like the BBQ.I don't really hear that many Texas accents.Texas ladies are more down to earth than the stereotype of all hair and make-up.Houston is the most diverse place I've ever lived, I like that.Houstonians overall seem super friendly, good customer service.Texas has some really bad drivers, but in Kingwood, you all keep your cars really clean. 4951

The hair/makeup stereotype is DALLAS.  Heh.Houston isn't all that Texan.  I think it's the energy industry.  We seem to attract people from all over the country.  I know very few born-and-bred Texans.But if you come to my house, you'll hear a Texan accent.  I can turn it on and off at will.  Except when I'm drinking.  Then there's no "off."  4951

Houston is the most diverse place I've ever lived, I like that

@MarT:

That explains the lack of accent. More foreigners and Yankees here around houston than Texans ..Emoticon
You want accent, go north about 40 miles... 4951

@MarT: I have been here ten years and these are my comments about your observations:

I agree about the attractiveness of Kingwood and Houston's lack thereof. Although that might change if they go ahead with cutting the trees on Kingwood dr. There is an LA influence here. It is f$:$)::&ng hot and humid here. Yuck! This winter was particularly cold and this spring particularly wet. It's not always like that. This is the second time in my 10 years that it rains so much. I have the same view about guns. I don't have one but believe people should have the right to own them. I like Texas ladies in general, except when they go out in pajamas and barefoot. Houston is very diverse but not Kingwood, which I don't like.
Overall I like living here but might look to move at some point.

To the diversity point, I think it varies throughout Kingwood. My street is very diverse. More so than when we moved here initially because we had a lot more original owners then than we do now. It's nice to get more neighbors with families and kids. We've been here almost 9 years now after moving from California. It is so much better in so many ways. And don't worry, we want it to stay that way! 4951

I don't thibk drivers are that bad in TX. Yes, most people drive fast and some tailgating, but definitely not the worst in the country. South FL is the worst I have been. California is pretty bad too. 4951

Okay, I have to add I think your salsa at restaurants is weird and don't hate me, I'm sick of driving behind pickups and giant SUVs. I don't normally drive our smaller cars either.

Hubby wants a pickup, he got rid of his last one because he hit a deer and totaled my car and I wasn't comfortable driving his truck. 4951

Pretty accurate. NOLA influence increased after Katrina. And you missed our obsession with football. Welcome to the best State In the Union. Emoticon 4951

@MarT:

Let him do it. You never want to be the smaller vehicle in an accident. My father's wife was killed in a t-bone accident and might have survived if they were in a larger vehicle. 4951
