On May 22nd, a Kingwood man was arrested for allegedly using blue and red flashing lights mounted close to the vehicle's headlights in an attempt to pull over a motorist in the 13200 block of the Eastex Freeway. The man, Eric Sanchez, 31, allegedly turned on the lights, and began to follow the driver at a distance of 15 feet. However, the driver that he was allegedly trying to pull overhappened to be an off-duty Harris County Sheriffs Office Sergeant. Realizing this, Sanchez exited Northpark Drive in an attempt to flee. The Sergeant managed to take down the licence plate number. Sanchez claims that he was not attempting to pull anyone over, and that the lights were turned on mistakenly. This news comes only two days after a similar situation occurred in Tomball, when Bennjair Pia-Torres, 21, also attempted to pull over an off-duty police officer. The man also realized that the driver was a police officer, in full uniform, and attempted to escape in a high speed chase--sometimes exceeding 100 mph, and running red lights. Read more:http://www.click2houston.com/news/court-documents-man-pretends-to-be-cop-mistakenly-pulls-over-deputy/33389994https://www.tomball.com/message_board/view_message.php?message_board_parent_id=880239&src=newsfeed

I am glad these morons were caught.  What are the odds that both of these stellar citizens tried to pull over off duty officers?  This is just too funny.

@Fallon: That just proves, karma is real, lol

Good deal.  And as a reminder, if someone does run lights on you, you are perfectly within your rights to call 911 and ask to verify it is an officer before you pull over.

@Stealth83: And, at the very least turn on your flashers and drive to a well-lit populated place, ie a gas station, before stopping.

There was a news article recently about a woman who did this and was charged with all sorts of crimes for not stopping immediately. 4951

@KellyG: If you're worried about that, call 911 as you're doing that and tell them what you're doing. After dark, I don't pull over on the side of the road, marked or unmarked car. I've done this myself several times, and never had a problem -- flashers, slow down, move over and exit at next exit (on the freeway) and find a gas station etc.  On a  back road where it may be awhile before I find a place, I would definitely call dispatch as well.

I thought there was a special number not 911 as that's the emergency line. Although this can be an emergency in this case anyway.

decades ago I had leased a probe with ground effects etc. Any muscle car person would be jealous of and going into Binghamton, NY I see t his sweet Camaro coming up behind. Then I saw it's bubbles.
I checked my speed I was fine. Stopped at the light as he did next to me. He rolled his window down and said sweet car what is it? A probe.
Sweet ground effect and it's turbo I see. Yes sir
He looks up and down the car and says wanna race to the next light and winks?
Nope I have to pay for my tires. Nor do I want a ticket.
The two of them laughed and said just checkin. Have a safe day.

They were in uniform but ya never know these days.
I hardly get stopped because I don't speed but when I do I call my husband and tell him where I am and I put it on speaker so he can hear.

Plug in the non emergency number in yours and family members phones. You can always call to ask for an officer to meet you where you are.

When I was really young say back in 1973, my mom and cousin were followed from a bar. They did the right turn left turn thing to make sure they were not just paranoid. My cousin drove right up to the front of the police station and laid on the horn. At first the idiot pulled up behind them. He got a gettin when that horn went off. They came out and one car escorted them to the house and two more hit the street. He spent the night with them in a 6x6.
They world has a lot more creepier people so stay aware. Anywhere anytime.
