So remember the house I posted about buying? Well, we ended up pulling out of the contract during our option period. The appraisal came back 9K lower than expected. The seller wasn't willing to come down at all. As we were already going in at their full asking price, it wouldn't have been smart to pay that much over what it appraised for. So, we walked away from it. And wouldn't you know, something even better came onto the market that we were able to snatch up with no issues at all. It's even in the same neighborhood as the other! Not as much land...but we'll still have 1.3 acres to play on. I love it because all 4 bedrooms are downstairs. The only thing upstairs is the "bonus" room and a 1/2 bath. We'll be using that as a guest retreat. The finishes are nicer in this home as well. So I don't feel like there's a lot I want to replace right away. Yay for my furniture budget! I do like the looks of the exterior of the other house better...but I'd rather have a more functional home, so it worked out for the best!

We closed almost 2 weeks ago. But because the seller has kids in school, and the wife is a teacher...they wanted to rent it back from us for a month. Which works great for us, because it's 1 less month of us having rent and a mortgage. We'll be moving toward the end of this month!

Here's the listing if anyone is as nosy as I am.

@taramay: Glad it worked out for the best. Emoticon
A coworker of my wife's has been renting in the Meyerland area, until they found the right place. They thought they'd found it 3 weeks ago, so they put $5K in earnest money down on it. It's in the same neighborhood, and both houses flooded during the storm. He told her it was the easiest $5K he ever walked away from. Emoticon  4951

Congratulations on your home. Now you get to drive by and wave. Lol

When I sold my Arizona home I threw the real estate agent out. She had the nerve to tell me I could not get what I wanted. I listed myself and came down the $9,000. I knew anyone buying was gonna counter. I priced it 10 grand higher than I really wanted.
A week later I had my $310 grand and they had a house valued at $139. Yep market blew one week after I sold. That was 06'. I look periodically and it's up to 168. I'd buy it back in a heartbeat. Even though the ruined a lot of what we did. I can only imagine what my hand designed saltwater pool looks like. Last I heard they put a mud pit in the backyard and the boys would slide into the mud and into the pool.
We put 65 grand into the back yard alone.

Yes we did. Then got screwed here. Long story. Found out after 4 years we did not own it. Called a lawyer and it wasn't gonna touch us so we took his advice and ran. Basically broke even.
We only moved here for family and I should have known better.
For us being seniors now, no young kids and hubby getting ready for retirement, I'm on the decrease mode.

I wish you all the luck and joy a home full of love brings.

Oh that is a nice house!  Things always work out for the best, so glad ya'll didn't pay more when it wasn't a wise thing to do.  I am seeing people pay over asking price here, and I just don't get that.Bet you that other house stays on the market for a long time.

@Fallon: Yeah. We weren't willing to pay over aprasial. Especially since we were being so fair from the beginning. He didn't want to negotiate at all. His loss! This home feels more my style anyway.

Don't be in a hurry to fill it up with too much stuff.
Love is not what you see but what you feel.
Although my dh says I'm lookin for a beautiful front porch with a nice house attached.
I found a home that I could feel the love, the owner's were sweet and moving up.

I believe you did not get the first house because this one was waiting for you.

If you need artful ideas, don't hesitate to give me a shout.
