Why do these televised competitions like The Voice, Ameica's Got Talent, etc., have to feature these hardship stories? Just about everyone has an issue and a story. Why not just compete on your own merits and leave the wah wah boo hoo story at home.

If they need filler, then just highlight random competitors. 4951

@donnatella:  I definitely agree.  The same thing happens on the cooking contest Chopped.  The contestants talk trash and each have their sob stories.  Obviously, the program director/producer pushes them to do this.

What I noticed on AGT, they just had an 87 yr old sing.  She had a great story but little chance of making the cut.  So, it's just  fluff alot of times.  But I agree with what you are saying. 4951

@donnatella: Can you imagine what she was like in her youth?  She was beautiful and oh, the stories she could tell!

I've got a front row seat for that one at work...between the young pregnant ladies and the older peri- to post- "mean-o-pausers", we need estrogen and chocolate dispensers at the door. And a lock box on the thermostat!

@caroline7327: I don't miss those days in the office one bit at all; however, I was one of three guys (one was the boss) in an office with 20 women and I had the code for the thermostat. Let me tell you that having that code had LOADS of power and benefits to it. I never had to buy lunch, but still...never again because being in the middle of a bunch of women discussing which degree to set the AC on is a freaking nightmare.
