Ok I'm new to the area and when I signed up for this forum it asked me what community I belong to. So how does this work if I live in an apartment in kingwood but not one of the subdivisions I'm not considered a kingwood resident. I know that you need a K sticker to go to the parks but can someone from an apartment get a K sticker? 4951

@Rini: First off, Emoticon and welcome to KDC! I'm not sure what neighborhood chat you'd be in, but maybe @KingwoodDotCom could help you with that. You might have to tell him which apartment complex you're in?!
Post often and enjoy the forum. There's some pretty good folks here! Emoticon  4951

Yes, technically you need a 'K' sticker to keep from getting towed from the community association funded parks. They are paid for out of HOA dues and are therefore private. That said, I've never actually known anyone to get towed. This is also why you need the wristbands to use the pools. Since apartment renters don't pay dues, they don't have use of community pools. I know a lot of people don't like this, but that's how it is.

@Ducatisti: I never knew that about apartments, but it makes sense. Apts have thier own pools anyway. This year, Elm Grove apts is having thier residents get pool tags for their pool too. I'm glad they do that. It keeps the pool poachers out.

Welcome! I witnessed a truck getting towed and the owner running after the tow truck at River Grove Park. I have also read about vehicles being towed. You will have peace of mind with the sticker. Enjoy the parks & the forum. 😃 4951

River Grove park is the main park that you will be towed without having a "k" sticker, most of the other community parks don't really care. River Grove will tow mostly because of the boat ramp, you will also be towed in river grove if you park in the boat only parking spots. 4951

You need a K sticker to go to a park??

@jack1: There are only 5 KSA parks: Creekwood Nature Center, Deer Ridge, East End, Northpark, and Rivergrove.Deer Ridge and Northpark are primarily sports fields.  I've never seen "K" sticker parking at East End enforced and Creekwood Nature Center doesn't have a proper parking area at all.As has already been stated, River Grove is the big player on this.  We had a couple of things going on at this park a few years back before they started really enforcing the "K" sticker.  Since there aren't many boat ramps in the area and all of them charge, people were coming in from all over to use our ramp.  There's limited parking around the boat slip and more than enough Kingwood residents use it to fill the lot.  Plus, the simple fact is that it's a private property.  It's not a public park. You also couldn't get a pavilion to save your life as the park would fill up quickly with out-of-towners who would camp there all day.  Think "Deussen Park" crowded nearly every single weekend.  Again, it's a private park and it sort of got a bit ridiculous so they started patrolling and enforcing.  If you pay your KSA dues, you probably appreciate that.
The neighborhood parks in each village are maintained by your HOA.As far as who can get a "K" sticker, the form just says, "K Stickers are for resident members of Kingwood Service Association only."  Since the folks in the apartments don't pay KSA fees, I don't believe they qualify for a sticker.  I could be wrong.  You can check the KSA website yourself at:  http://www.kingwoodserviceassociation.org/kingwoodservice/sub_category_list.asp?category=31&title=%27K%27+Stickers 4951

But @Shodan66, do the apts. pay KSA fees? I would think part of the rent goes towards that, if apts. are required to pay the association fee. If so I would think apartment dwellers having the necessary paper work  and  being in a village that pays to KSA would be allowed to obtain a K sticker.  I have never lived in an apartment so I'm not sure. 4951

Welcome

We were never allowed to have a sticker when we lived in an apartment. I do Know someone who almost got towed. The guy had hooked him up. I forget how much it would have been, but the guy charged him $85 to unhook him. Right there on the spot.

Although I refuse to go to dirty deussan as I call it, where are the free parks?

Crazy how we pay taxes on our rent etc and we can not use the city parks.

As it is I went from walking 6 miles a day to driving 10 miles to walk for an hour.

I'm not a dog park person and after the guy was not charged for killing the other guys dog, I like them less.
People are going mad. 4951

@thegoodwife: Yeah, I don't know.  Exactly why I said I could be wrong.  We moved from Arkansas directly into owning a house so I've never lived in the apartments, either.

@beadweaver: And therein lies the flaw in your argument.  The KSA parks are not city parks.  They are private property owned, managed, and paid for by the KSA members.  To the best of my knowledge, there are no tax dollars used at all.
The village parks and playgrounds...the ones in each neighborhood where children are most apt to play...are open to residents and do not require a sticker.  I don't know where they are all located, but I'm familiar with the ones my kids have played at.  Bear Branch is on Tree Lane across from the elementary school.  Hunters Ridge is on Brookdale just off North Park.  Elm Grove has a nice one on the corner of Creek Shadows and Rustling Elms.  I know there is one in Trailwood, another in Woodland Hills, and several more that I've seen over the years but am drawing a blank on. 4951

@shodan66:   Several of the village HOAs have opted out of paying KSA dues.  Residents of those villages are not allowed to get the K stickers.  The attached KSA link shows its members:http://www.kingwoodserviceassociation.org/kingwoodservice/sub_category_list.asp?category=19&title=Community+Association+Members

@shodan66:

No argument, just a question. We live here yet get what?
I understand the neighborhoods have there parks.
Where are public parks? Where we can kick back read a book etc.

I usually drive up to 336 to Carl Barton Jr park. There are 7 baseball diamonds so you usually get to catch an inning as you sit a spell. They have swings, etc for the kids, you can fish, pavilion and grills, nature trails and a concrete path around the lake and fountain. It's spotless clean and well maintained. Again it's at least 10 miles one way.

I'd like to be able to go someplace other than lonestar college track.
I'm a student and drop my recyclables, but the smell of the outhouses is a real turn off.

I'd like a close place to be able to take the dog and then be able to watercolor, draw, bead or just read a book.
