I'm running Windows 8.1 on my PC.  Today, I noticed an icon on my taskbar that I was not familiar with.  I clicked on it to find that Microsoft is offering free upgrades to Windows 10 from Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 devices.  The upgrade will not be available until July 29, 2015.  If your PC or device can handle Windows 10, you can reserve a copy of the upgrade. Here is the link it sent me to for more information.http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-faq?ocid=win10_auxapp_contextSince I've heard nothing about Windows 10, I will need to do some research to see what the changes are and if it's worth it.  I was NOT happy with Windows 8, but with Windows 8.1, I found out how to do everything I wanted/needed.  Has anyone else heard anything about Windows 10? 4951

@ProblemAgain:  Thanks!  I'll look at the others tomorrow.  Of the nine reasons the guy in this article gives for liking Windows 10, I won't use ANY of them.  With Windows 8.1, I go directly to Desktop view and do everything from there.  MAYBE their new Start menu will be better because I hate the Start window with all the app icons on W8.1   Windows 8.0 and 8.1 were simplified software that seems more suitable for a tablet than a desktop, but I was finally able to make it work. When Microsoft says things like "more intuitive", that really means they've dumbed it down even more and you can't do some of the things you could do before.  W10 will also download and install updates automatically.  I like to know when updates are available, but I want to control when they are downloaded and installed.  At least I've got plenty of time to read more about it before I commit.

@Retired_Engineer: they keep making it harder to for users to do things so the users can't mess something up...by doing that, they also make it more difficult to do anything . 7 was worse than xp for this, and 8 is a large pain in the *** compared to 7

I love the auto updates.  I love getting ready to leave the ball park after an extra inning game only to have the computer show "installing updates and shutting down" before shutting down. 4951

here is something that might be a help toohttp://sharewareonsale.com/s/giveaway-coupon-sale-ebook-inside-windows-10 Many
people believe Windows 10 will simply be an upgrade to Windows 8.1.
They’re dead wrong. The truth is, this OS is a much bigger deal than all
the other operating systems Microsoft have ever developed. Windows 10
isn’t going to be just another operating system — Microsoft is planning
to create an ecosystem of connected products, devices and services and
Windows 10 will be the backbone of the changes to come.Get invaluable knowledge on Windows 10 and how it will impact the future of technology with Inside Windows 10: An Early Look At Microsoft’s Newest Operating System.
With this eBook, you’ll gain a valuable insight on how you can get a

@fcabanski:  Exactly.  I have my PC set to alert me of updates and then  I will decide when to download and install them.  Sometimes I am in the middle of doing something and do not want to shut everything down at that moment for updates.  We won't have that option with W10.

@ProblemAgain: Because we haven't heard that before from Microsoft.

I have W8.1 and my wife has W7 I like to make my computer do what I want it to.  MicroSoft is gradually making it so we have to adapt to the way THEY want us to do things.  They are dumbing things down to the simplest user level. They should have an OS for simple users and an OS for advanced users. When I got Windows 8.0 (then 8.1) on my computer, I hated (and still do) what they did to the START page.  I set it up to automatically go to the Desktop view and I do everything I can from there.  Windows 8.0 actually belonged on a Tablet and not a PC.  W8.1 corrected the most obvious flaws.  4951
