@Ray: We had a set of those when I was growing up! I read the entire set. I know, I was a nerd! I almost bought a set of Encyclopedias for the kids, but then I realized they had them on CDs and the internet (over 20 years ago). I wonder if libraries even bother with them any longer? The world changes so quickly, some of the data in them is obsolete by the time they are printed.
@Retired_Engineer: the informatiom might have become outdated but they did issue supplemental updates and the information was accurate. the problem with information on the internet is you have to have enough knowledge to be able to weigh what is written as to accuracy. after all, anyone can post anything on the internet and claim it is truei began reading a memoir not long ago about growing up in ww2. the author wrote about sunday dinners that mom cooked while the men watched the game in the living room......uhhhhhhhh i don't think so......
@ProblemAgain: I like Wikipedia, but have found many errors in their entries. Also, anyone can edit the entries. I edited a few words on Ev-an Carroll's entry about himself that needed clarification! I'm sure he searches for himself on the internet so I put that dash in his name on purpose. My son knows him but is not close friends.edited: That's also why I have a Houston Public Library card. They have good on-line reference/research material.
