BRENHAM, TX (KTRK) --H-E-B is now putting Blue Bell ice cream back on its shelves after a listeria outbreak.H-E-B released a tweet earlier Monday, saying the newly made products are going on the shelves from the plant in Brenham after being assured they are safe. Several retailers pulled Blue Bell from the shelves after at least eight people got sickened from listeria from Blue Bell products. Investigators say the illness was traced back to ice cream processed at Blue Bell's plant in Oklahoma. 4951

Check the date on the story you copied that from.  It's from April 13th, prior to the massive recall. 4951

When the news first broke and Blue Bell immediately pulled everything from stores, I was proud of them for reacting so quickly.  HOWEVER, then I found out Blue Bell knew there had been a listeria problem for TWO YEARS and they obviously did NOT take adequate measures to eliminate the threat. While I do hope that they resume production, I'm not sure if I will be a customer. The issue may become moot as lawsuits are now being filed, employee layoffs have happened, and they have had no income for some time.  Even if they survive, they will be a prime target for a buy-out or hostile take-over. 4951

Here is an Update Q: What have you changed to make things safe? A: We are implementing additional safety procedures and testing, including:Evaluating and making facility repairs, including replacing floors, floor tiles and ceiling tiles, as needed.Conducting thorough cleaning and sanitizing, including disassembling and steam cleaning all equipment, and inspecting and sanitizing all HVAC systems.Working with a team of independent microbiologists to review and revise all cleaning and sanitization procedures, and installing new control systems to provide higher hot water temperatures for cleaning and sanitizing.Eliminating possible contamination pathways, including redesigning work spaces to re-route traffic in production areas, placing barriers between work areas, installing additional foot washers at doors into production areas, and discontinuing use of outside materials such as wood pallets in sanitary areas.Establishing revised protocols and quality assurance requirements for environmental and product sample testing, including a more rigorous monitoring program for Listeria.Destroying existing cardboard containers, boxes and product wrappers that could potentially provide a pathway for contamination. Plants will discontinue the reuse of cardboard shipping sleeves.Continuing employee training in microbiology and detailed cleaning and sanitization methods and systems. 4951

@Retired_Engineer: Now that's a term we don't hear of too often in today's time, back in the 80's companies were notorious for this.... 4951

Better check the source of that information. Nothing on the wires about this and it will be a big story when it happens. 4951

@GoldenGirl:  Those are the actions they negotiated with various agencies (Texas Health, CDC, etc) in order to restart production.  When production does start, it will be very limited as they monitor it.  Then production will GRADUALLY increase and expand.Don't expect any Blue Bell in quantities for a while.  I suspect this will primarily be a Blue Bell-less summer.
