Early this morning, the Houston Fire Department worked to extract a Kingwood family from their flooded home. The home, located near Hamblen and Lakeside Lane (west of the Eastex Freeway), was surrounded by water. Although the water was only several inches deep, it completely surrounded the home and left the family no way out. The Houston Fire Department pulled the two mean, a woman, and a child out via boat. The San Jacinto River continues to rise, and the Flood Warning remains for the West Fork San Jacinto River. In fact, the river registered at 29.4 ft last night--flood stage is 29.4 ft--and experts believe the river will crest around 31 ft late Friday morning. The river is expected to stay above flood levels for the weekend. Source:http://kagstv.com/News/KAGSNews/ID/9226/Family-rescued-from-Kingwood-home-as-San-Jacinto-River-continues-to-rise 4951

@GoldenGirl:No. You are not. Houston media has no clue unless the reporter happens to live here, apparently. 4951

I saw it on the news. I apologize for being blunt, but they had warnings and should have already left.  They live in these low lying areas along the river and then put their families and rescuers at risk when they wait to get out. 4951

@soxs mom: I agree totally.  I know there are exceptions but I hate that people are put at ristk to help those who do not help themselves.  I was glad to hear they pressed charges against those teens out on the raft that were rescued.  Made me sick to see them laughing and cutting up on the news like it was no big deal.  If that was my kid I would beat him silly when he got home..

I noticed Northshore is not a choice on 'neighborhood'. Can you add, please??? Because, no, we are not one of the 'villages' of Kingwood.  4951

These people did not heed the warnings.  They created extra drama and put first responders at risk.  They should have to pay the bill for their rescue. 4951

@lrfranky:

I would rather that they are more specific in their description, as it makes it sound like all of kingwood is flooding and may need rescue, when it's actually none of it. That's why it matters. They need to report accurately so people can stay informed. Calling it Kingwood, they might as well say Southeast Texas. 4951

@GoldenGirl @sh56That location is within the Houston city limits...It's not within the City of Humble city limits...it's north of the San Jacinto...The Hospital and KW College are both considered Kingwood and both on that side of 59...I think it's fair game to call it either Kingwood or Humble. Ever since Houston annexed Kingwood, there really are no Officially defined city limits to Kingwood...https://www.google.com/maps/place/Lakeside+Ln,+Humble,+TX+77339/@30.0339932,-95.2548013,15z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x8640b2dd6dd8f505:0x5306f6a83ffed4c4 4951

@buffaloglenn:You nailed it.  We 'trust" the media to give us accurate details. When that does not happen then people, humans that we are, react accordingly to the generalities.  Case in point - I got worried phone calls and then texts from a friend who "heard Kingwood was flooding and rescues were happening."When I finally got the messages, I had to reassure her that was not the case and that the periphery had problems, but not Kingwood proper.  Many of those areas have flooded before so it's not generally applicable. 4951

It almost sounds like they could have walked out, unless (gasp) there might be some details missing. 4951
