I found some pictures I took from 59 looking south towards the river. The water came up to the Sorters-McClellan overpass.

@QueenB: so the only way to go south would be across 1314 then down 45? Was 1314 and 45 passable?

1314 to 242 to 45, they were passable but it was very slow going. And 242 was completely surrounded by water 4951

@buddyboy: what was trying to be said in the other thread yesterday is when it happens your pretty much stuck because ten ways in and out become 2 ways in and out and everyone is doing the same thing. 20 minute drives become 4 hours, people run out of gas or over heat, accidents and it just becomes a mess. So most are safe from flooding but become stuck sometimes in places they dont wanna be stuck. This is why we all start opening our eyes when our rivers rise past their banks and decide if we shoukd skip work or keep kids at home....etc.

I remember a Sheriff's airboat heading down Chestnut Ridge and it was my first inkling that this was going to be a major event. It was the first day that Cici's opened, they were having their grand opening that day and needless to say, it was a true wash out. People all over the place rushing to help friends and neighbors move possessions to second floors, gas stations were out of gas, lots of folks were out of power including Jamail's grocery but they had little left on their shelves anyway. I recall the photo of 18-wheelers seemingly floating in the flood waters across the bridge in Humble.  4951
