Interested in opinions on high schools in Kingwood. We are moving from Louisiana with a freshman and a senior.  Interested in all high school educational options, ie. public school, private, and homeschooling.  Any advice/resources would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you! 4951

None are really bad or worse choices IMO. I graduated from Kingwood High School and loved it. That was almost 10 years before the recent updates / renovations. Kingwood High has approximately 1,000 more students. I have a few friends who went to Northeast Christian Academy and all three liked it, but wish they had the "true" big high school experience.

What village / subdivision you live in determines which high school you go to. 4951

I like K Park.  There is just enough students without being overwhelming.  The parking situation and access to the roads is a lot better too. 4951

Do you have a realtor lined up? If not, let me know - the one we used when icing here 2 yrs ago bece a great family friend. Her oldest goes to K High (due to where they live) and she can give her thoughts on all of your options. I know they have been happy with the HS.

I think there has to be a website that gives academic rankings of the three, too, my kids are still at elementary, and younger, ages do we haven't crossed that bridge yet. We also live in an area where we can choose between the two public high schools come time. A lot can change in 6-12 yrs!

Good luck! 4951

There's a huge homeschool group here of 500+ families. Homeschool sports, co-ops, and activities of all kinds. Highschool age homeschoolers often go to the nearby community college for dual credit classes. Texas is a very homeschool friendly state. 4951

We are in the K-Park district and are glad because it's a smaller school with easier access. I personally find KHS overwhelming.

I have friends with kids that go to KHS though who love it so it's almost a matter of personal preference. 4951

We also moved here from Louisiana 3 years ago. I did all the research with test scores, teacher experience , etc ,which I found on Texas education agency. We decided on riverwood middle school and Kingwood high school. We have been very pleased. Having said that I think it depends on your children and their needs and interests. Kingwood is a larger school the Kpark. Good Luck! 4951

Thank you for all the information!!! My main concern right now is for my senior. She wants to go to Texas A and M and major in Forensic Science. I do not want to make any choice that would hinder her from doing that. She has a couple of Bs in high school and our grading scale in Louisiana is unweighted, so I am concerned how that will affect her top 10 % status here in Kingwood with a weighted scale. She will need to be in top 10 % or score a 30 on her ACT to be able to be guaranteed admission to A & M. She is close to a 30, but not there yet. I am not certain how homeschooling would affect her academically this coming fall. I like the idea of dual credit at Lone Star College and feel that is possible with public school or homeschooling. 4951

I believe I am a bit more comfortable with kpark because it is smaller and more similar in size to the high school she is going to now. I feel that academically, either public high school would be fine. She only needs two more courses to graduate 4951

We love Northeast Christian.  Great teachers and individual attention.  High school is moving to a beautiful new campus.  4951

Both my boys went to Kingwood High and loved it..  You really can't go wrong with either.  Just make sure when you buy your home you are slated to go to one of those schools and you'll be fine. 4951

@louanddeana:  Be prepared.  My daughter was in the top 5% in Florida when we moved here.  She had her senior year at K Park and ended up being in the top 15% because the schools and students here in Kingwood are very competitive and advanced in comparison to other areas of the country.  She had slightly over a 4.0.  I would work on the ACT questions diligently because there is no guarantee that she will make the top 10% here.

@louanddeana:
My twins just graduated from KPark, and they loved it. The teachers and students are amazing. The graduating class this year was 400. Idk what Kingwood High School's number was. I do know that they are attempting to limit transfers as much as possible, and are beginning to re-zone as well as the population continues to rise in our area, so make sure you move into a subdivision zoned for whatever school you chose. Don't rely solely on what the listing or realtor says the school is. I have found them to be incorrect on several occasions. Checking the Humble ISD Transportation website would be your best bet.
