Street flooding could cut off access to neighborhoods next to river Author: Nakia Cooper, Sr. Web EditorJoel Eisenbaum, Investigative Reporter, Anchor, jeisenbaum@kprc.com Published On: May 27 2015 02:43:45 PM CDT   Updated  18 m Show Transcript Hide Transcript THE SEARCH AND WE'LL HAVE ANOTHER UPDATE AHEAD AT 5:00. RIGHT NOW, PEOPLE LIVING ALONG THE LOWER PORTION OF THE SAN JACINTO RIVER ARE BEING TOLD TO GET READY FOR THE WORST. FLOODWATERS COULD TRAP THEM IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOODS. GOOD AFTERNOON AND THANKS FOR JOINING US FOR STAYING WITH US FOR THIS EXTENDED HOUR OF CHANNEL 2 NEWS AT 4:00. ALONG BANANA BEND AND RIO VILLA, THE WATER IS RISING QUICKLY AFTER MORE WATER WAS RELEASED FROM CONROE LAKE DAM. RYAN KORSGARD IS LIVE IN KINGWOOD. ARE PEOPLE LEAVING FROM THERE, JOEL? Reporter: LAUREN, IT SEEMS TO ME EVERYONE THAT WAS GOING TO LEAVE THIS SPECIFIC NEIGHBORHOOD HAS ALREADY LEFT, EXCEPT PERHAPS THESE TWO OVER HERE. THEY'VE BEEN FAITHFULLY STAYING IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. WE'RE AT THE CORNER OF HAMBLIN AND LAKE POINT. THIS IS KINGWOOD. POLICE HAVE IT CORDONED OFF HERE BECAUSE THEY DO EXPECT THE WATER TO RISING EVEN FURTHER. THE POLICE ACTUALLY JUST WARDED OFF TWO TEENS WHO WANTED TO GET BACK TO THEIR HOME IN A BOAT. THEY SAID, WE MIGHT LET YOU BACK THERE IN A LITTLE BIT, BUT WE WANT YOUR PARENTS TO BE WITH YOU, SO THEY'RE STILL CERTAINLY DEALING WITH ISSUES IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD. IN A CARVED OUT CORNER OF KINGWOOD, HARRIS COUNTY, UNDERSTAND A SMALL SUBDIVISION CALLED NORTH SHORE. ARE YOU READY FOR THIS? WE'RE NEVER READY FOR IT. WE'VE JUST GOT TO DEAL WITH IT. Reporter: THINGS HAVE A DECENT CHANCE OF GOING FROM BAD TO WORSE, AND IT ALREADY AIN'T GREAT. POWER IS OUT AND THE WATER IS UP. WHEN THE SAN JACINTO IS YOUR NEIGHBOR, YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO BE VIGILANT, BUT NOW WITH THE MAJOR WATER RELEASE UPSTREAM TO RELIEVE BLOATED LAKE CONROE, THERE'S NO TELLING WHAT THE NEXT SIX TO 12 HOURS WILL BRING. H.P.D. IS CHECKING AND RECHECKING THE AREA, THEY TELL US. RIGHT NOW, WE'RE MONITORING THE SITUATION, WE'RE PROVIDING EXTRA PATROLS, AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE CLOSE SO THAT IF ANYTHING NEEDS ASSISTANCE, WE CAN GET IN THERE. Reporter: THE PROBLEM IS THIS NEIGHBORHOOD JUST HAVEN'T MUCH TO GIVE RIGHT NOW, EVEN WITH LESSONS OF THE PAST, HOMES ON STILTS, GENERATORS, THERE'S MORN A FEW NERVOUS NEIGHBORS AROUND HERE. ABOUT FOUR AND A HALF FROM MY HOUSE. STILL, HE'S SITTING TIGHT, I THINK. STERP STERN WARNING, RESIDENTS WHO LIVE IN NEIGHBORHOOD IMMEDIATELY NORTH AND SOUTH OF THE WEST FORK OF THE SAN JACINTO RIVER SHOULD BE AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED TO TAKE ACTION AS THE WATER FROM THE RIVER WILL INUNDATE STREETS AND POSSIBLY CUT OFF ACCESS TO HOMES IN THOSE AREAS. SO WE'RE GOING TO DO JUST A LITTLE UNSCIENTIFIC TEST BETWEEN NOW AND OUR 6:00 HIT. WE'RE GOING TO PUT THIS CONE RIGHT HERE AND SEE IF THE WATER COMES UP AT ALL. ALSO, JUST WITNESSED A PUPPY
