So I got this text & I'm worried sick. My cat is MY baby! Anyone experienced anything similar in their own animals? Calling the vet now, just hoping to hear some personal experiences. Thanks in advance.

In a nutshell, he's got a deep meow like when you have strep throat, he doesn't want to be bothered or loved on, didn't try to go outside which isn't like him, & tried hacking something up like he had a hair ball. *Just called the vet & they're closed from 12pm- 2pm. 4951

I know how you feel.  My fur-babies are part of the family and children.  That happened just recently with us and the baby girl.  Their meow changes and they tend to withdraw when something is wrong.  It might be inconvenient, but a walk-in trip tot he vet now sounds like it's in order.  When baby girl did that, I rushed her to the vet and I'm glad I did.  4951

Hope it's just a stuck hairball.  They make some hairball stuff in a tube that helps them expell it.  My cats would lick it off my finger.  Some people put it on the cats nose or paw so they have to lick it off. 4951

Go to the vet. Your peace of mind is worth the cost. 4951

Check outside for bird feathers. I had a cat eat a baby bird (bad kitty!) and what he finally hacked up was not pretty! 4951

@Heathur: if you don't KNOW what is wrong, you are better off to get the cat to the vet so the right diagnosis is made and the right treatment is started rather than just guessing. the guess might not only be wrong but actually do harm by delaying the right treatment and even making the situation worse

Don't want to scare you but our last cat did that, and she laid down to sleep and never woke up. We found out later that one of the neighbors that hates cats gave her some antifreeze to drink. Some people!!!!! 4951

My cat had similar symptoms one time. It was some kind of throat infection almost like a cat version of strep throat. She was put on Amoxicillin and also given fluids under her skin for hydration. 4951

When we adopted Mr. Kitty he did that too. Ended up being a respiratory infection and allergies. The vet gave us some meds and it was all better. 4951

My cat was doing that earlier in the spring, and she was having allergy problems due to the high mold count at the time. She was meowing strangely and making an occasional coughing/gagging noise. The vet gave me antihistamines for her, and that fixed her up. 4951

DH got home at 2:15pm with the hair ball helper & he was acting totally normal! Thanks for asking! Emoticon Back to his usual lovey dovey self, normal meowing, usual sweet boy self. When I got home he followed me everywhere & cuddled me senseless per usual. Pretty sure it was a hair ball or the hung carcass of some small animal sacrifice. How exactly do they digest the small creatures they eat anyways?! lol
