If you go frequently enough, a zoo membership may be good in the long run. 4951

@Annie:

I agree...we ended up getting a membership. $119 for the entire year is a great deal.

Not interested in going near the zoo, especially on a holiday. They used to have a policy where welfare queens and their broods could get in free on holidays, while the working people had to pay full price. That's right...reward them further for taking something for nothing!!! That cured me of all things zoo related.

Channel 2 just did a live shot and it was already packed, so apparently the policy still stands. 4951

@CBP210: Little monkies like to see the little monkies at the zoo. That was always a favorite for my DS. He hated it when I called him "monkey" but he earned it bouncing and jumping around my house and on my furniture. 4951

Some people take offense at that, but to me, it's a term of endearment. 4951

@Annie:

For us it just takes two trips a year for it to be less expensive to buy the membership. 4951

@donnatella: Children Musuem does the same thing where they have a free day and of course all the same elements you mention are in full force.

@donnatella: dont call your kid a turd around a canadian.....lol...learned that on facebook. Very nice loving mom gave a long post about her son graduating, going to medical school and how proud she was of him and said although he was a turd growing up at times he was the best son a mom could want.

Omg, ever canadian on her face book ripped her a new one. Saying that was the worst offensive thing to call a child and that she didnt deserve to be a mom. My jaw hit the floor at the lynch mop....lol

Gorilla exhibit opened to the public this weekend.I got the single membership for like $65.  My daughter and I can go for free as often as we want.  We get discount carousel rides,etc..  She loves the splash pad in the summer.  If my husband tags along, which maybe 2x a year it's $10.   But I take my daughter at least 1x a month during the week.  Occasionally on weekends if my husband has to get some work done at home and he need peace and quiet.   4951

@foxymama:

We went Thursday to see the Gorilla Exhibit. It was pretty impressive to see. Surprisingly there were a lot of other members there to see it. I would think it would be a mad house this weekend. 4951

We buy a grandparents membership every year. Sadly we do not get to use it as often as we would like.

Some may consider the days I do not use it (my membership which allows two adults and five kids daily access) a gift to any family that may not be able to pay for the family to go to the zoo and does so free.

Really I would be happy to meet a young mother and her children at the entrance so she and they may educate themselves and carry those special days.
Some of my favorite memories are my mom and family at the zoo.
The goats ate grannies koolots, the baboon hit an aunt with poo because he wanted her banana. The day we went to feed tilly the elephant and my cousin was afraid and kept pulling his hand back and she slapped him with her trunk. When my little sis tried to breach a fence to grab a cracker for a monkey and I stopped her saying..... let me do it.
That monkey can tie a knot in your hair like greased lightening. Lol I sure learned what s barrier meant.
The hours of sitting forehead to forehead with that bison I named Tatonka. My years went by always seeing him. When I could not be found, someone was sent down to gather me up.
We didn't just go to the zoo and stare at animals. We took a coal mine tour, set up a huge picnic under the pavilion along with other families. We went swimming, walked trails, went to the museum and rode rides. After lunch we played a friendly game of wuffle ball or softball, etc. Kids explored on their own, adults hot to visit and catch up. Fun was had and very little cash went out except for picnic foods and a few rides.

Today the parking and entrance fees can add up for any size family.
